Position Description

Performs administrative duties in the management and coordination of a large specialized project and program. Performs varied and complex administrative duties requiring independent judgment and the application of established policies and procedures. May provide supervision and direction to clerical, paraprofessional or professional staff members.

Major/Essential Functions


  • Coordinate district-wide instructional and specialized programs for students with disabilities.
  • Work to provide individualized academic, functional and behavior support to meet the needs of students served in special education and ensure compliance with federal, state laws. Lead and direct the district's Special Education/504/ESL/GT/Dyslexia/RTI programs to ensure provision of needed services for special needs students.
  • Create and support the implementation of research based intervention programs, curricular and instructional programs, assessment programs, and on-going staff development to improve effectiveness.
  • Support school staff with effective implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities Plan, organize and implement special education staff development as needed
  • Work collaboratively with campus administration, staff who function in direct contact with students (advisors, counselors, registrar, etc).
  • Support school staff with effective implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and 504's.
  • Collaborate with external vendors to provide required services to students. Provide the district with innovative online programs.
  • Assist in developing special population program policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to strict confidentiality and other ethical standards. Pursue and apply continuous education and training to increase efficacy with the dynamic needs of their students and families. Attend appropriate professional development to maintain proficiency and acquire new ideas for program improvement
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by supervisor.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Computer literate in Word, Excel, and Access. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to handle multiple projects. Ability to work in teams and work effectively under stressful situations. Ability to plan and organize. Detail oriented. Adaptable and comfortable in a fast-paced work environment.
Knowledge of K-12 schools policies, procedures and special populations. Strong written and oral communications and relational skills. Human relations which demonstrates sensitivity to needs and concerns of others. Following and relaying complex oral and written instructions, policies and procedures. Operate a variety of office equipment, including computer, printer, calculator, and copier.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in the area of specialization or closely related field. Four years of related administrative and technical experience. Additional job related education may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in Special Education, Administration, or related field. Texas Administration Certificate. A minimum of two years of experience working with special education programs. Experience in online education and previous administration experience in a K-12 public school.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Experience in provided instructional strategies for students with special needs. Experience in designing and implementing appropriate programming for students with significant cognitive, behavioral and/or communication challenges. Knowledge of, and ability to serve as a consultant regarding State and Federal laws and regulations governing Special Education; school systems and programs, mediation and conflict resolution techniques; team building and group process. Online experience.
