JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The College of Earth and Mineral Sciences at Penn State is seeking a Business Intelligence Specialist.

Responsibilities: Following are the key responsibilities of this role:

  • Provide analytical support to assist college and unit leadership in making decisions related to budget planning, strategic planning, student populations/data and general business operations
  • Participate in the development, assessment, and ongoing monitoring of strategic goals and objectives, and provide support and guidance in interpreting and utilizing the data and reports generated, determining the impact on proposed programs and developing viable alternatives and strategies
  • Serve as a resource for staff across the college charged with writing ad hoc queries and/or performing data analysis
  • Consult with college offices on issues regarding data collection and management; serve as the college's point of contact for the creation and distribution of on-line surveys and benchmarks with other units on possible surveys
  • Engage with other Data Management employees across the university to share best practices and common reporting needs.

Education and Experience: This position will be filled at the Senior Professional level and requires Master's degree or higher and 6+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preference for a degree in a data-focused field of study, an understanding of relevant web and metadata standards; an interest in or experience in stewarding or managing research data; and/or experience with SQL, NOSQL and/or SOLR, or similar. A demonstrated understanding of scientific research methods and data collection processes; strong organizational skills, and a tolerance for occasional project ambiguity; a willingness to work directly with researchers; and the ability to work both independently and in small results-oriented teams are additional valued qualities in an applicant.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$86,300.00 - $129,500.00
