Auburn University Risk Management and Safety is looking for an
Insurance and Risk Management Specialist to help safeguard our university community. In this role, you'll play a key part in managing Auburn's commercial property and casualty insurance programs, self-insured programs, claims processes, and risk mitigation strategies. Essential Functions |
- Development and administration of insurance marketing plans
- Technical review of insurance documents; collecting and analyzing financial information
- Recommending and processing insurance cost allocations
- Claim management and analysis
- Recording and analyzing data in the Risk Management Information System
- Negotiating policy terms, conditions and pricing with insurance brokers
- Oversight of third party claim administrators
- Identification and analysis of risk exposures
- Preparing and maintaining loss prevention and loss control programs
- Developing and presenting training programs
- Communication with University employees and outside constituents to provide information, advice and guidance on risk management and insurance-related issues and concerns;
- Assisting with contract review
- Working with insurance brokers, claimants, attorneys and others.

Degree in Risk Management & Insurance, Business, Economics, Finance, Health and Safety, or a degree in any other related field
Level I
- High School/GED plus 8 years of experience OR
- Bachelor's degree plus 0 years of experience
- The salary range for this level is between $43,130 - $69,000
Level II
- High School/GED plus 10 years of experience OR
- Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of experience OR
- Master's degree plus 0 years of experience
- The salary range for this level is between $48,520 - $77,630
Level III
- High School/GED plus 12 years of experience OR
- Bachelor's degree plus 4 years of experience OR
- Master's degree plus 2 years of experience
- The salary range for this level is between $59,130 - $88,000
Scope of experience:Experience in the administration of a risk management program and/or in the field of insurance

Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications
Minimum Skills and Abilities |
- Property and casualty insurance specific knowledge plus a demonstrated knowledge or ability to learn, interpret and apply the following: technical and theoretical understanding of insurance principles and capability of exercising independent judgment in the interpretation and application of complex insurance principles; ability to read, interpret and analyze all forms of insurance policies; and knowledge and ability to apply industry standard best practices for claim administration are all essential.
- This person must also have knowledge of current state and federal codes, regulations and laws governing area of responsibility such as state workers' compensation statutes and automobile liability financial responsibility regulations.
- They must exhibit strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with others.

- Proficiency with computer software applications such as Word, Excel, and Power Point and demonstrated ability to learn new software applications is essential.

- Prior experience working directly in the property and casualty insurance or risk management field;
- High level of property and casualty insurance specific knowledge;
- Excellent analytical skills;
- Organization/time management skills;
- Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills; self-starter;
- Ability to perform and complete work autonomously
- Experience working with financial information and ability to record, reconcile and assess financial information. The following designations are a plus: ARM (Associate in Risk Management) or CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter).
