DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will oversee the operators at the Regional Traffic Management Center. Your responsibilities will encompass managing daily operations, delivering essential training to the operators, conducting performance evaluations, and handling leave requests. You will also engage in administrative tasks related to shift staffing schedules. Monitoring will include CCTV, 800 MHz radio communications, police and fire scanners, and incident detection devices, while assessing current roadway conditions concerning traffic, weather, and overall operations. You will identify the impact area of incidents and disseminate traveler information through the activation of Changeable Message Boards and the Road Condition Reporting System. Proficiency in various Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) software packages will be required. Additionally, you will report highway incidents and hazardous weather conditions to the appropriate maintenance personnel. You will manage Freeway Service Patrol Vehicle operations by directing them to incidents and documenting their actions, including notifying the State Police about abandoned vehicles that may pose safety risks or hinder emergency responses. You will also activate AMBER Alerts as directed by the Pennsylvania State Police or PennDOT (EPLO) and develop an Action Event Plan for special events.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday - Friday
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, on an ad-hoc basis. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in King of Prussia.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Regional Traffic Management Center Operator (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience evaluating and coordinating information related to traffic data, incidents or conditions.
