Job Title: Social Media Manager

Location: Houston, TX

General Summary of Position:

We are seeking a creative and strategic Social Media Manager to lead NRG Energy's corporate social media efforts. This role will develop and manage a cohesive and impactful social media strategy, as well as create and publish engaging content across platforms (LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube) and ensure alignment with our business strategy and priorities. Reporting to the Corporate Communications Manager, the position collaborates with teams across NRG in marketing, investor relations, sustainability, and others to drive audience engagement and a strong digital presence.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Content Strategy and Planning

  • Develop, manage, and execute corporate social media strategy
  • Serve as primary liaison between corporate stakeholders and NRG's social audience, ensuring consistent messaging, timely updates on events and promotions, and alignment across social channels
  • Provide guidance and strategic direction for social posts and campaigns for optimal performance
  • Liaise with brand counterparts to learn and implement best practices for enterprise

Digital Storytelling Through Social Media

  • In partnership with other NRG business units and teams, create content by proactively story-mining across the enterprise
  • Write, edit, publish, and manage organic and paid content
  • Develop and manage content calendar for all social activations on corporate channels
  • Oversee content creation captured at NRG corporate events
  • Collaborate with creative team and corporate stakeholders to produce assets or copy needed for content

Performance Analysis

  • Notify and monitor for any breaking, crisis, or urgent need-to-know industry or company news
  • Continuously measure and optimize analytics while also establishing benchmarks and recommending future strategies or tactics

Audience Engagement

  • Address community management including customer questions or comments as needed, following the established escalation protocol
  • Develop and implement social media guidelines and engagement tactics for employees

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, English, or similar field, or 7 years of relevant experience
  • Preferably 5-7 years of experience with social media strategy and planning, content development and production

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work cross-functionally and independently in fast fast-paced environment
  • Proven track record of success in developing social media programs for premium brands, and management of social media communities, with responsibilities in day-to-day management, growth strategies, measurement, engagement campaigns and content strategy
  • Ability to capture photo and video content in a fresh and creative way, keeping up with platform trends
  • Knowledge of the latest trends in social media marketing, sharing insights with the team and serving as an expert advisor within the organization
  • Experience in managing and measuring a variety of ongoing events or campaign-specific social demand generation programs
  • Energy industry experience preferred but not required
  • Budget management experience
  • Exceptional copywriting and communication skills
  • Strong program management skills with high attention to detail
  • Broad business understanding, strong analytical abilities, and critical, creative thinker
  • Collaborative and team-oriented
  • Driven, motivated, positive, enthusiastic, and energetic
  • Working knowledge of Sprout Social, or similar social dashboard platforms
  • Working knowledge of Wrike, or similar project management platforms

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time
  • Regularly required to use a computer to communicate via online channels
  • Minimal domestic travel is required - approximately 20%
  • Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand

Working Conditions:

  • Open Office Environment - Primary Work Location in Houston, TX
  • Hybrid work schedule, 3 days in office, 2 days remote work
  • Reports to the Corporate Communications function
