Shift Work Required- Weekly shifts will include opening, mid and closing shifts. One weekend day is required. Some holiday shifts may be required for special programs and occasional back-up coverage.

Scope of Position:
The Day Resource Assistant is responsible to assist with all activities of the Day Shelter, including hot meals, laundry facilities, shower facilities and distribution of personal use items. The Day Resource Assistant, working with other staff and volunteers, will assist with handling all incoming food donations and purchases, and maintaining clean facilities for all Social Services programs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

5. Customer service mindset; must be congenial and able to work with difficult individuals
6. Previous experience working with homeless and other vulnerable populations
7. Ability and willingness to keep information confidential

Licenses and Certifications:
1. High school diploma or GED.
2. Current driver's license.
3. Current CPR/First aid, both infant/child and adult (or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment)
4. Current Idaho State Food Handler's license (or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Serve as greeter for all guests, clients, donors, visitors and community partners entering the Social Services building, routing them to appropriate staff for various services.
2. Support Day Shelter activities, working with Site Manager and other staff and volunteers to maintain proper coverage of all program areas, in accordance with The Salvation Army's policies and procedures.
3. Responsible for working, as assigned by Site Manager, on meal prep and clean-up, cleaning of facilities, client supervision, security, food distribution, special projects
4. Prepare and serve meals as needed or provide support to volunteer and community groups as they prepare and serve meals.
5. Following direction from the Site Manager, adhere to established menu, making changes as directed based on donated items and meals provided from other groups.
6. Host outside groups and volunteers (Hot Meals, Special Service providers, Life Skills classes).
7. Provide occasional back up to Food Pantry staff for donation pick-up.
8. Assist as needed with food donations, working with other staff to complete so proper coverage of program areas is maintained. Assist with storage and distribution of all donations.
9. Provide support to all clients, referring as needed to Case Managers or the pastoral care team.
10. Provide support to clients, such as processing suggestions, handling complaints and handling keys and mail (seasonal residential clients only). Assist clients with applications for The Salvation Army's seasonal events, such as Back to School, Angel Tree, Summer Camp, etc.
11. Complete regular perimeter checks of the outside of the property, ensuring members of the public are observing rules that prohibit smoking, drinking, loitering, sleeping. Report issues as needed to Site Manager.
12. Host volunteer groups coming to serve in various aspects of the shelter (Food Service, Repairs, Cleaning, Holiday prep)
13. Oversee shower and laundry outreach programs- providing proper supervision and accounting of daily participants.
14. Assess conflict between clients and staff, contacting Site Manager and/or emergency personnel as needed. Write proper incident reports as needed per The Salvation Army's policies. Resolve conflict and use appropriate diffusion methods between clients when necessary.
15. Provide written Behavior Reports to clients in violation of The Salvation Army's rules, submitting to Case Conference minutes for discussion and action.
16. Report to Site Manager maintenance needs, such as broken equipment, supply needs, property issues.
17. Provide operational support to Shelter Staff, such as collection of keys, handling of client mail, and processing complaints.
18. Keep proper record of daily services provided, sending statistics to Site Manager for recording and reporting as needed.
19. Attend all staff meetings, conferences, etc. as directed.
20. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
21. May require occasional night or weekend hours.
