Responsible for identifying customer issues, developing cost effective solutions and project implementation for large commercial, industrial and institutional customers. Project implementation includes the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of energy related products and services. Current product and service focus areas are medium and low voltage electric infrastructure, back-up power systems (including standby generation and UPS), power quality, monitoring and control systems, facility assessments, outdoor lighting and industrial processes. Job has accountability for:

  • Contacting large industrial, commercial, or institutional customers through a business development process to identify the issues and provide commercially available solutions within the customers' budget constraints.

  • Investigation, design and development of innovative solutions to resolve customer issues. Solutions may be implemented inside the customer's facility or on the Duke side of the meter. Also provide costing and sales support for these projects.

  • Project implementations that meets the contract scope, budget estimates and customer delivery schedules. Responsible for managing multiple projects simultaneously using available internal and external resources.

  • Contracting and management of outsourced engineering and contractor network that is used to deliver projects. Individual will be accountable for continued development of engineering and contractor network and innovative ways to deliver projects within internal resource constraints.

Position requires an individual that is customer-focused, team oriented, has a background in project management, and has the ability to become an expert advisor in specific product areas. Individual will be accountable for leading or assisting the work group and management in interpreting and evaluating existing and proposed codes, processes, standards, regulations, requirements, and guidelines.

Basic/Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree AND five (5) years minimum required related experience

  • In lieu of degree and experience listed above, High School/GED AND nine (9) years minimum required related experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Project Management, MBA, Professional Engineer, Certified Energy Manager or Certified Project Manager.

  • Five years of project management or related experience. Includes demonstrated project management skills that resulted in projects delivered on-time, on-budget and on-scope.

  • Five years of project engineering experience in electric infrastructure or related field.

  • Demonstrated ability to assume total project responsibilities including quality assurance, customer interface, internal reporting and financial evaluation.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform work in compliance with applicable safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Customer focused with demonstrated experience working closely with customers to manage customer issues in a professional manner.

  • Commercial mindset that can assess and resolve customer issues with innovative options based on customer cost guidelines and quality standards.

  • Demonstrated experience in negotiating contracts and managing internal and external contractors and consultants to meet customer goals of scope and schedule.

  • Demonstrated ability to speak and write in a clear, concise, and organized manner using correct grammar - ability to document, make recommendations and influence others to common vision and action. Demonstrated ability to represent Duke Energy and effectively communicate technical and business impacts to technical and non-technical individuals within Duke Energy's and customers' organization.

Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university.

  • License holder for Electrical, Building or Public Utility Contracting.

  • Nine years of project management or related experience in delivering electric infrastructure to large commercial, industrial and institutional customers.

  • Experience with design/installation/operation of back-up power systems, monitoring and controls equipment, power quality, energy efficiency measures.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a diverse team of individuals to meet a common goal and timeline.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop skills and become expert advisor for entire offer delivery team. Topics will include technical or business issues.

  • Demonstrated history of continuous improvement in job-related technical, business and professional knowledge and skills. Areas of focus include safety codes & practices, engineering codes & standards, regulations, and company procedures, and market & technical trends.

  • Demonstrated ability to assume total project responsibilities including quality assurance, customer interface, internal reporting and financial evaluation. Demonstrated ability to perform work in compliance with applicable safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Demonstrated ability in business development processes - developing customer relationships, making recommendations and providing solutions to the commercial and industrial markets, leading to deal close.

  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and provide options to customer issues that are complex in nature and for which there are no existing guidelines or known commercial solutions.

  • Working knowledge of computerized reporting systems.

  • Working knowledge of available commercial equipment and contractor network.

  • Working knowledge of NEC & NESC codes.

Working Conditions
  • Field Mobility Classification - Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period. However, field employees are required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location.
