About the role:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Senior Buyer/Planner to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing inventory levels, optimizing purchasing processes, and collaborating with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials. This position plays a crucial role in optimizing purchasing strategies, maintaining relationships with vendors and cross-functional areas, ensuring alignment with the company's objectives. The team is focused on multiple commodities including metals, plastics, chemicals, resins, and packaging. Experience with these commodities is a plus. The facility is located in Spencer, IN and is just outside of Bloomington which is home Indiana University. Our facility focuses on med devices for Urology and Endoscopy and coordinates with dozens of vendors and multiple sister sites to secure materials to support production.

Your responsibilities will include:



  • Supplier Management: Identify, evaluate, and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure the best value and reliability. Negotiate terms and delivery schedules.
  • Procurement Strategy: Develop and implement strategic sourcing plans to optimize processes, improve quality, and enhance supplier performance.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels and manage the ordering process to avoid stockouts or overstock situations. Typically manages high complexity commodities and expense items; formulates purchasing decisions to achieve 100% internal customer service, targeted inventory turns and least total cost material procurement
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, such as production, supplier engineer, supplier quality, planning, logistics, and finance, to align purchasing strategies with overall business goals.
  • Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure all purchases comply with company policies, regulatory standards, and industry best practice


  • Continuous Improvement: Focus on continuous improvement of strategies and best practices by leveraging data and systems.
  • Leadership: Supports team members by setting an example, coaching and providing feedback and guidance
  • Problem Solving: Solves a range of problems of varying scope and complexity, generally applying existing solutions, while exercising autonomy to propose alternatives understanding their impact on the business or apply judgment based on experience to develop new solutions



Required qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Supply Chain Management or related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in purchasing, planning, or supply chain management
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel and inventory management software
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills - able to use data to inform, persuade and influence stakeholders
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Highly organized and able to complete routine tasks while responding to emerging issues
  • Ability to assist in coordinating and aligning priorities and resources as part of a project team
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and conducting supplier evaluations



Preferred qualifications:



  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience working in SAP, Rapid Response, and/or PowerBI
  • Experience with SIOP and MRP inputs
  • Knowledge of medical device industry

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
