A Day in the Life:

The Packaging Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of packaging equipment, performing preventative maintenance, making minor repairs, and producing quality products according to the production schedule. This role also includes loading/unloading trucks and railcars, transferring oil products within the facility, and maintaining a safe and clean work environment.

Positions Details:

  • This position requires a flexible work schedule, which may include 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts, off-shifts, weekends, and rotations as required by production demands. Specific scheduling details will be discussed during the interview process.
  • Pay Rate: $25.70 per hour

Core Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe work environment, identify and report hazards, and promote safe practices among colleagues. Actively participate in safety programs and initiatives.
  • Operate packaging equipment efficiently and effectively according to standard operating procedures (SOPs). Ensure products are packaged, labeled, and palletized according to specifications. Includes operation of votators, shortening, liquid, and tote lines.
  • Perform routine quality checks on packaging and products. Identify and handle off-quality products and packaging supplies. Respond to problems and implement corrective actions. Collect product samples for analysis.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve packaging line issues. Perform preventative maintenance (PM) and minor repairs on packaging equipment.
  • Load and unload railcars and trucks, connecting unloading/loading lines. Operate a forklift for warehouse tasks, including loading, receiving, and transferring oil products within the facility. Interpret tank inventories, valve and pump settings to ensure the correct product is being filled and pumped.
  • Collect inventory of storage tanks.
  • Maintain accurate production records and documentation as required by Quality and Operation systems. Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and all other relevant regulations.
  • Effectively communicate with team members and supervisors regarding production issues, safety concerns, and other relevant information.

Skill/Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment, particularly food manufacturing or packaging, is highly desirable.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret instructions, SOPs, and safety regulations.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Ability to operate a forklift safely and efficiently. Experience loading and unloading railcars and trucks is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including off-shifts, weekends, and rotations.
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality.
