The Office of Information Technology ( OIT) is Rutgers' enterprise IT office. OIT provides university wide services and support and collaborates with department and unit IT professionals on projects and initiatives for the Rutgers community. OIT's services and systems include the Rutgers network; email and calendaring systems; IDs/passwords and identity management; data centers; computer labs; help desk support; wireless connectivity; a software portal; information security, risk, and compliance services; research computing; and many others. Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Telecom Analyst III for the Office of Information Technology. Reporting to the Network Operations Center Manager, Telecommunications Division Network Operations & Architecture, the Telecommunications Analyst is a highly skilled technician who monitors, investigates, analyzes, repairs, configures, and supports Rutgers University's network infrastructure and systems.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Provides technical and supervisory guidance to other team members and is the escalation point for non-routine tasks and complex service requests, events, and incidents.
  • Provides technical support for Rutgers University network infrastructure.
  • Monitors network service status.
  • Investigates, analyzes and corrects network faults and performance issues to ensure optimal delivery of network services.
  • Utilizes network monitoring software and established toolsets to monitor network equipment and identify network service issues.
  • Receives and responds to critical service incidents and critical service requests during off-hours/on-call shifts.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education or experience.
  • At least four (4) years of relevant experience in telecommunications and computing.

Certifications/Licenses
  • Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver's license would be required for this position.

  • Experience working with network infrastructure and network cabling in and around telecommunications, data center environments, and equipment room areas.
  • Experience working in technical field operations.
  • Experience with event/alert management and incident and change management processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possess Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA); Juniper Networks Certified Associate - Junos
  • (JNCIA - Junos) certifications.
  • Possess ITIL Foundation or higher ITIL certifications.
  • Working knowledge of Juniper JUNOS and Cisco IOS software.
  • Experience working with UPS and PDU equipment.
  • Experience working with IP Address Management software.
  • Experience working with wireless networking, wireless access points, and wireless controllers.
  • Strong understanding of ITSM principles and best practices.
  • Experience with network, configuration, & service management software.

Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • This individual spends time working in office and field environments. \The office environment is standard, with low to moderate noise.
  • The field environments vary from site to site, including Telecommunications Rooms, Data Centers, Main Distribution Frame (MDF), and Independent Distribution Frame (IDF) areas. Noise in field areas is low - heavy, and temperature and area dimensions vary.
  • Travel across and between Rutgers University Campus sites is required.
  • Office environment.
  • Moderate Noise.
