Job Description

The UNOS Organ Center seeks to fill an Organ Placement Specialist position to provide service to UNOS members (Organ Procurement Organizations, Transplant Centers, Histocompatibility Laboratories) in the coordination of renal and extra renal organ allocation, donor/recipient matching, transportation assistance, and transplant candidate waiting list maintenance tasks. Additionally, the Organ Placement Specialist may be called upon to serve as a resource for information technology troubleshooting, organ allocation policies, as well as to advise UNOS members on Organ Center experiences regarding unique donor situations. The Organ Placement Specialist is also responsible for reporting issues that arise during the shift to Organ Center Management.

The UNOS Organ Center is open twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year. Organ Placement Specialists are required to work three 12-hour shifts (6a-6p, 6p-6a) that rotate between day and night (approximately 8 weeks on days and 8 weeks on nights), and include weekends and holidays with on call responsibilities as scheduled.

Minimum Requirements



  • Entry level experience in customer service, healthcare, or the field of transplantation


Critical Skills



  • Excellent oral and written communication skills-particularly telephone skills
  • Must have the ability to quickly gather and report information in required order and format
  • Must have demonstrated ability to work under high stress, prioritize effectively, and multi-task efficiently
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • MS Office proficiency
  • Positive attitude and ability to collaborate with a team
  • High level of self-motivation


Additional Skills and Qualifications



  • Strong background in medical terminology, human anatomy, and/or human physiology
  • Experience with reading medical charts


Education

4-year degree in Science, Information Technology, Healthcare or related field, or equivalent work experience

Physical Requirements



  • Ability to work 12 hour shifts, nights and weekends, and on-call hours
  • Attendance expected at the UNOS office in all weather conditions to ensure the Organ Center is operational
  • General office demands

    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Frequent reaching, handling, and fine manipulation for using office equipment, filing, and managing paperwork.
    • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, mouse, and other office tools.
    • Occasional standing, walking, and bending.
    • Ability to lift up to 10-20 pounds occasionally.
    • Vision abilities required include close vision for computer work and reading documents.
