Under general supervision of the Computer Science Undergraduate Program Manager, independently provide undergraduate student support services to two majors within two separate colleges; Computer Science in the College of Letters and Science (CS) and Computer Science Engineering in the College of Engineering (CSE). Provide comprehensive, advanced academic advising on a wide range of often complex issues to undergraduate students. Provide support to the Undergraduate Program Manager for the implementation of the Department's assessment process in compliance with the colleges mandated accreditation organizations (ABET/UIPR/WASC). Provide consultation on matters of undergraduate education and academic advising to the department, College faculty, faculty governance committees, department staff, and staff and faculty from other colleges and campuses, student affairs units, and the general public. Provide development and implementation of outreach, recruitment, admission, and retention efforts for undergraduate students. Work is performed autonomously with direct reporting to the Undergraduate Program Manager with a dotted line relationship to the Director of Engineering Undergraduate Office. Represent the department on undergraduate matters with substantial delegated authority.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
* Minimum three years of professional advising experience; bachelor's degree can be substituted for one year
* Experience in holistic advising and counseling approaches and experience with academic policies, procedures and requirements in a higher education setting; recommending solutions to progression and requirement issues; skills to make proper referrals to other campus resources.
* Experience in problem identification, reasoning, analysis to identify trends; skills to find solutions to conflicting situations.
* Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing; skills to interact with individuals of varying ages and cultural backgrounds and perspectives.
* Experience in making decisions independently, manage details of complex projects and processes aligned with strategic priorities from start to finish with minimal direction, and to adapt to constantly shifting priorities and outcomes.
* Skills in judgment and decision-making, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.
Preferred Qualifications
* Master's degree in academic advising, counseling, higher education leadership, student services, or related fields; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, including a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
* Experience in curriculum planning processes and best practices; knowledge of undergraduate and graduate courses and degree requirements. Experience with student supervision, employment, and student hiring practices/complexities
* Organizational and administrative skills to develop and implement new programs and/or material to better meet the undergraduate advising needs of the Department.
* Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, and effective listening skills to interact positively and cooperatively with diverse students, parents, faculty, administrators, staff and the general public in a culturally dynamic University.
* Strong professional, interpersonal skills to work with and gain trust from department and college leadership, faculty, students and other constituents from diverse backgrounds.
* Skill to identify and determine appropriate level of advising or referral services for individual students, providing immediate crisis counseling, and referrals to students in academic, financial or personal difficulty.
* Skills to recognize and handle difficult/unpleasant situations and/or individuals

Department Overview
The Department of Computer Science (CS) is a large complex research unit, one of eight academic departments in the College of Engineering, and provides instruction and research within specialty areas of engineering. The Department has 43 faculty, 9 emeriti, 3 adjunct professors, 3 technical IT Support staff, and 14 administrative staff. The Graduate Group of Computer Science administers three graduate programs: B.S.-to-M.S, M.S. and Ph.D. with approximately 500+ graduate students and supports nearly 100 graduate group faculty. Faculty in the Graduate Group of Computer Science have primary appointments in multiple disciplines including Engineering, School of Medicine, Graduate School of Management, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Physics, Math, Sociology, to name a few.. The Undergraduate program has over 1300 students within 2 programs (CS and CSE). The Graduate Group receives funding in excess of $4M, the Department Operational budget is in excess of $3M, and the faculty expenditures averages ~$6M. Computer Science has a large undergraduate student service component. CS teaches over 13,000 students per year (over 54,000 SCH) with students from various programs across campus.
