Job Summary

The Police Accreditation and Training Manager reports directly to the Vice President for Public Safety on accreditation and training matters. The Accreditation Manager is responsible for performing analytical and administrative work with minimal supervision. Emphasis is on planning and coordinating accreditation and training activities assigned by the Vice President. The Accreditation Manager is encouraged to make independent judgments and decisions based on analytical and innovative thinking. Performance in this job is measured through reporting and analyses, methodology, and levels of success accomplishing the accreditation goals of the Drexel University Police Department. The individual filling the position, sworn or non-sworn, has the authority to make appropriate assignments and enforce deadlines throughout the agency.

Essential Functions



  • Receives assignments and sets work priorities, coordinating accreditation tasks to meet deadlines in order to assure an efficient workflow throughout the agency.
  • Reviews a wide variety of complex and technical issues concerning CALEA Standards and the Accreditation Process.
  • Meets regularly with the VP (the CALEA CEO), key agency personnel, and others to identify needs and report progress on accreditation efforts.
  • Identifies and develops new programs, systems, procedures, or equipment specifications for the improvement of agency performance in compliance with applicable accreditation standards.
  • Attends CALEA Conferences and local Police Accreditation Coalition/Network meetings and coordinates attendance of other agency representatives.
  • Keeps abreast of the accreditation process, including proposed changes or amendments to the standards, transition policies, or process changes. Evaluates the impact of these changes on the agency.
  • Provides accreditation training for agency Accreditation personnel.
  • Provides information to the public and may make presentations to selected civic associations.
  • Assigns, directs and coordinates accreditation work groups to achieve plans of action, recommendations to the VP, or complete other accreditation goals.
  • Drafts written directives or assigns writing projects to achieve accreditation objectives.
  • Maintains master and archive files for all CALEA directives.
  • Proficiency in the use of Power DMS or other software program to track accreditation activities.
  • Coordinates on-site CALEA assessments and inspections; prepares and submits required reports and documentation to CALEA; and prepares the department for reaccreditation. Facilitates and conducts mock assessment reviews.
  • Manage and maintain all personnel Training Records. Ensure all In-house instructor certifications are current.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Administration, coordinate all internal and external trainings, ensuring mandatory trainings are conducted to meet internal timelines. Arrange training registration and travel logistics for all external training opportunities.
  • Identify areas where further or newly added trainings are needed to ensure compliance.
  • Periodic review of all internal training lesson plans and curriculums to ensure information presented is current and up-to-date.
  • Manage and maintain Municipal Police Officer's and Education & Training Commission (MPOETC) documentation for agency personnel including processing all new hires thru TACS System for certification.
  • Responsible for leading and coordinating the work of employees assigned to CALEA functions on an "as-needed" basis or special assignment by the Chief of Police. Provides training on the accreditation process, reviewing and overseeing daily tasks assigned.
  • Responsible for coordinating all aspects of the Promotional Exam process, working with Command Staff and the Director of Administration, and key University personnel to develop and administer promotional exam. Reviewing of Directives and policies for accuracy of exam questions and ensuring the fairness and integrity of the Agency's Promotional process.
  • Responsible for other tasks and special projects including coordinating and participating in community events, coordinating all Recruitment efforts with Agency personnel for career fairs and employment opportunities, seeking alternative funding opportunities, Public Safety newsletter in-house edition and all other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications



  • Minimum of HS Diploma or GED or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Minimum of 2 years' relevant experience.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt, grade M. Compensation for this grade ranges from $75,200 to $112,790 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
