Advanced Practice Provider (PA/NP) - Vascular Interventional Radiology

Position Description:

The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Radiology, Vascular and Interventional Radiology division is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide primary or specialty medical care within defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and procedures. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as part of a multidisciplinary health care team, providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for the patients of the outpatient services as a member of the Department of Radiology. The APP will have a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and ensure an environment of safe quality care. Services are provided under the direction of the department or radiology faculty. Location: Froedtert Campus, Froedtert Menomonee Falls, Froedtert West Bend.

In this role you will be responsible for the following:

  • Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
  • Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
  • Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
  • Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
  • Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.

Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring radiologic intervention in outpatient environment as a member of the Division of Vascular and Interventional Radiology.
  • Collaborate as a team member with the inpatient Vascular and Interventional Radiology care team to coordinate procedural and longitudinal care of patients, as needed.
  • Writes accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders.
  • Participates in preprocedural and postprocedural patient care as it relates to the management of the Interventional Radiology patients.
  • Educates patients and families on preprocedural and postprocedural care
  • Perform history and physical exam as needed for Interventional Radiology patients
  • Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information.
  • Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the Vascular & Interventional Radiology services.
  • Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
  • Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.
  • Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.
  • Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.

Preferred Schedule: Full-time role (M-F) with expectations for coverage during core business hours and flexibility required as necessary to accommodate business needs. Scheduling flexibility required to provide for an appropriate level of patient care. May require some evening or weekend hours in the future based on business needs.

Position Requirements:

Minimum Education: Preference for years and type of experience in Interventional Radiology and/or outpatient clinic experience desired, but not required.

Advanced Practice Nurse: Master's Degree or higher in Nursing
Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies
