Department Summary

Grants and Contracts Administration (GCA) within the Division of Research & Innovation supports the University of North Texas, a tier 1 research university, in its endeavor to excel in its research mission. GCA aspires to be a model organization in the field of research administration, providing exceptional service to the university community. We are charged with the Pre Award and Post Award administration of externally funded sponsored projects and envision an environment that facilitates the University of North Texas' commitment to research and encourages continued efforts to attract additional research funding.

Position Overview

The Grants & Contracts Analyst position within the Grants & Contracts Administration PreAward staff is responsible for leading a team in the research grant proposal submission process. Provides day-to-day oversight of the team, workload and its distribution. Develops and administers training for both internal staff and external users. Acts as liaison for University and responsible for remaining current on issues and best practices in the field of research administration. Requires ability to negotiate highly complex sponsor terms and conditions of awards; and prepares documents for requests for information and audits. Oversees team day-to-day operations and manages special projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in business administration, Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, Higher Ed or related field and two years professional experience or research work; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • High level math/accounting skills, strong reading comprehension skills, ability to interpret guidelines and instructions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and customer service.
  • Ability to negotiate moderately complex sponsor terms and conditions of awards.


Preferred Qualifications

2 years of experience in Research Administration.

Job Duties:



  • Review complex proposals for compliance to applicable regulations and policies to minimize university liability and legal and financial risk campus wide.
  • Oversees and mentors PreAward Staff with responsibilities for setting priorities, managing workload and sponsor expectations.
  • Develops and implements tools, policies, and procedures for compliance with changes and accurate reporting to sponsoring agency, including internal controls.
  • Demonstrates good decision-making skills and resolves complex issues independently. Develops and manages special projects.
  • Develops and delivers individual and complex campus-wide training for wide array of research administration topics to ensure compliance with federal and state policy changes.
  • Responsible for being current in the field of research administration.
  • Other special projects and reporting as assigned by supervisor.

Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm
