Integrated Grid Planning Strategy Intern

Department Overview

Integrated Grid Planning (IGP) is responsible for developing stable, multi-year investment plans using a data driven approach that solves multiple needs to achieve our strategic objectives for the electric Transmission and Distribution systems. Integrated Grid Planning bundles work that addresses multiple needs (e.g., wildfire risk reduction, expanding capacity to serve new or growing load, improving asset health, and improving reliability), creating efficiencies that reduce the cost of delivering safe, clean, and affordable energy to our customers.

Position Summary

The Integrated Grid Planning Strategy Internship position is located within the Integrated Grid Planning (IGP) organization. IGP is looking for a talented summer intern to support the development and implementation of strategic initiatives. The intern will assist in industry engagement, regulatory and stakeholder education, process documentation, and data tracking. This role will involve collaborating with team members to support various strategic initiatives, preparing presentations and reports, and conducting research and analysis to support decision-making processes.

The actual hourly rate paid to an individualwill be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications,experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.Although we estimatethe successful candidate hiredinto this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decisionwill be made on a case-by-casebasis related to these factors.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $24.52 to $35.37

Responsibilities

Supporting senior staff with:

  • Industry engagement:

  • Maintain and update a list of industry contacts

  • Schedule and assist in planning and coordinating webinars, meetings, and workshops

  • Track and document industry events (IEEE, etc.) for potential speaking opportunities

  • Research and identify potential utility partners for consortium building

  • Regulatory/Stakeholder education:

  • Draft educational materials (PPTs, one-pagers, videos) to explain IGP solutions and their value

  • Assist in planning and coordinating educational webinars, meetings, and workshops

  • Processes:

  • Document newly created processes

  • Develop templates and tools to streamline future documentation efforts

  • Reports/Data/Tracking:

  • Identity and track data to monitor progress and document it in reports

  • Maintain dashboards and visualizations to make data insights more accessible

  • General Support:

  • Collaborate with team members to support various strategic initiatives

  • Assist in preparing presentations and reports for internal and external stakeholders

  • Conduct research and analysis to support decision-making processes

The successful intern will have the opportunity to learn about these activities as described above working with a team of experienced engineers. Additionally, the intern will gain knowledge of the larger Electric Engineering organization and community through the work they will be performing.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Qualified candidates are pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering at an accredited University

  • Students must be continuing their education towards their degree during and/or after the internship

  • Interest in grid resilience and reliability, electric grid optimization and efficiency, regulatory compliance and policy analysis, grid modernization and smart grid technologies, and renewable energy integration (e.g., solar, wind)

Desired:

  • 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA

  • Engineering experience in utilities, municipalities, construction, or engineering consultation

  • Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written

  • Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction
