Job Overview

As the Director of Merchandising for our INC business, you will work side by side with our in-house, Private Brand Design team to develop seasonal assortments that are exclusively available at Macy's.

Essential Functions

Key Responsibilities:



  • Develop and execute a comprehensive product merchandising strategy utilizing a data driven approach to analyze customer behavior and develop consumer centric product strategies and experiences across all channels.
  • In partnership with the Trend Research & Forecasting and Brand Strategy teams, monitor market and internal trends to ensure INC's merchandising strategy is competitive and consumer centric.
  • Possess deep understanding of the competitive landscape and customer to identify opportunities for growth and improvement in the product category portfolio.
  • Maintain the integrity of key items through lifecycle management.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams, including Private Brand Design, Assortment Planning, Financial Planning, Marketing, and Product Development to ensure alignment and consistency from product strategy to messaging and positioning.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve processes and workflows to increase efficiency and productivity within the department.
  • Continuously work side by side with our in-house Private Brand Design team to develop seasonal assortments that are exclusively available at Macy's, including assortment selection and strategies that supports the high-level product vision while maximizing sales, margin, and turn.
  • Develop a pre-season assortment vision aligned with company priorities and insights from Digital, Private Brands, and Planning Director counterparts.
  • Evaluate upcoming season trends in partnership with design, Trend Research and Forecasting, identifying key trends and white space opportunities.
  • Partner with Financial Planning and Assortment Planning to ensure department-level financial targets support assortment strategy.
  • Collaborate with Private Brands and Assortment Planning to develop assortment vision guiding product development strategy, color/sizing opportunities, testing new products/categories, and alignment on marketing/digital strategy.
  • Partner with Financial Planning to reforecast sales in season looking for ways to amplify successes and mitigate risks.
  • Conduct regular meetings with vendors to discuss current business and plan for the future.
  • Establish pre-season pricing strategy with input from the Digital Director and partner with the Pricing team on in-season adjustments.
  • Collaborate with the Merchandise Marketing team and Digital Director to set content and promotional strategies, including FOB events.
  • Develop and lead pre-season and in-season merchandising vision and strategy to create a seamless shopping experience for customers both in stores and online.
  • Travel to Asia with the INC cross functional product and design team to visit factories and suppliers 2x a year to review protos.



Skills You Will Need



  • Previous experience in product creation a plus.
  • Previous experience working in merchandising at a specialty retailer a plus.
  • Strong financial planning acumen essential. Must be comfortable talking about sales, margin, turn, WOS and all the financial levers that exist to drive a business.
  • Strong strategic and analytical ability.
  • Driven for results with strong financial acumen.
  • Excellent verbal and written ability; Adept at presenting information and storytelling.
  • Ability to align with, collaborate and influence cross functional partners and peers.
  • Anticipate operational/program issues and develops preventative measures.
  • Ability to influence without authority across and up.
  • Communication Skills: Proficient in open and continuous communication, adept at keeping others informed, and capable of presenting information clearly and concisely.

  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in MS Office computer programs is essential for the role.
