The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Pediatric Critical Care has an opening for a full-time experienced Intermediate or Senior Laboratory Sciences Professional. This position will work on a project investigating the role of dysregulated redox signaling in pulmonary hypertension and acute lung injury. Responsibilities for this position include performing experiments using cell culture, ELISA, Western blot, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, flow cytometry, protein work, biochemical assays, small rodent (mouse) work, processing of human blood samples, and microscopic analysis. The position includes the maintenance of an accurate database, participation in data analysis, project management with record keeping, and organization of protocols. In addition, the position will include developing new protocols for the lab, supervising trainees (students) and, potentially, training new lab personnel. The ideal candidate will be reliable, personable, highly motivated, organized, and have demonstrated the ability to work autonomously when appropriate. Key Responsibilities: Overall:
- Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions
- Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects
- Perform experiments and tabulate and analyze research
- Support the analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting and communicating results
- Perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical test processes and evaluate results produced
- Prepare lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas
- Provide animal care related to research studies, as necessary
- Pick up, transport, and maintain results, samples, documents, materials, and other items as needed
- Dispose of laboratory materials and samples using well-established guidelines and instructions
- Review, complete, and process logs, documents, databases, and related materials and information
- Provide support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve process, unit, and related issues
- Review and implement lab support policies, practices, and programs to meet organizational, operations, and management needs
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations; receive guidance and direction or escalate when required
- Independently and creatively identify laboratory solutions
- Independently Review, develop, and implement new or modified laboratory techniques required for research projects
- Assist Team Leads, Supervisors, and/or management with the creation and implementation of processes and procedures and quality improvement initiatives
- Assist and train junior team members
Senior Level:
- Assist with developing or developing protocol-specific systems and documents including process flows, training manuals, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintains subject-level documentation and prepares documents, equipment, and/or supplies
- Assist with identifying issues related to operational efficiency and share results with leadership
- Provide laboratory science expertise and leadership in study design, study oversight, data management, data analysis, and manuscript preparation to assist all levels of investigators, researchers, and clinicians on new research activities across a wide range of disciplines
- Serve as a resource to PIs and other stakeholders
Additional Duties & Responsibilities Conduct bench work including:
- Perform basic laboratory studies including Molecular and Biochemical research; cell culture, transfections, ELISA, Western blot, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, flow cytometry, biochemical assays, microscopic analysis, small rodent (mouse) work excluding genotyping and colony management
- Train/supervise junior lab members in bench work
Lab management including:
- Contributing to the organization and overall maintenance of the lab
- Organization of data
- Overseeing maintenance of lab equipment
- Maintaining lab protocols
- Training new lab personnel as appropriate

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Intermediate Level:
- BS or BA degree in biology or related field
- At least 2 years of full-time biomedical research experience
Senior Level:
- BS or BA degree in biology or related field
- At least 2 years of full-time biomedical research experience
Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
- Greater than 7 years of full-time lab experience with a position as a senior lab professional
- Experience handling rodents
- Troubleshooting skills for new laboratory protocols
- Experience maintaining a database and organizing a lab as a lab manager
- Experience training students and fellows
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability and willingness to work with rodent (mouse) models
- Experience with basic molecular and cell biology techniques
- Ability to maintain excellent records
- Organizational skills
- Advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques

Anticipated Pay Range:
|
The starting salary range for this position has been established as: Intermediate Level: $48,970 to $62,290 Senior Level: $52,941 to $67,341 The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level. Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck.
