Job Summary
MED: Radiology The incumbent must have the skills and ability to manage the level of responsibility and accountability necessary to provide specialized duties for the department/clinical team for which it is assigned and is responsible for sustaining an environment of intrinsic good will for the practice while providing optimum services to patients. This position will be responsible for the triaging and scheduling patient procedures or the department as well as coordination of exams and appointments with other ancillary services, other departments of the hospital, and outside facilities. This person provides support and communicates directly with patients, referring clinics, physicians, nursing, and technical staff. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring proper insurance authorization is in place and must have a thorough knowledge of medical terminology, ICD10 and CPT codes and the ability to abstract pertinent information from the patient's medical record. Incumbent works independently and work is referred to his/her supervisor only when standard procedures or processes do not apply. This position may also perform front office duties consistent with that of MOSC 2, per operational needs.
Work location is in Sacramento/3195 Folsom Blvd. Sacramento, CA. However, incumbent may be required to work at other UCD Health sites, including the ACC and the main hospital based on radiology demands. - Two (2) years of administrative experience required.
- In depth knowledge of health care insurance systems, which may include Medi-Cal, MediCare, HMO, PPO, fee-for-service, county funded coverage, and workers' compensation, sufficient to properly obtain and track authorizations, appoint patients, make referrals for consults, diagnostics and ancillary services, coordinate hospital services, complete and submit billing documentation, and explain provisions and requirements to patients.
- Knowledge of ICD-9, CPT and HCPCS coding guidelines sufficient to accurately identify services performed, including diagnoses, procedures, and supplies.
- Knowledge and experience of practices and protocols related to medical office procedures, (i.e. medical terminology, appointments, medical records, insurance verification, cashiering, billing, etc.)
- Ability to effectively and efficiently multi-task, demonstrating ability to organize, prioritize and complete assignments in a designated time frame.
- Ability to adjust to changing workload or assignments and pressures of increased workload or deadlines.
- Problem solving skills to independently anticipate and identify a problem, resource available assistance, create a viable solution and initiate the necessary action to implement resolution, ensuring a prompt and satisfactory resolution.
- Decision making skills to independently exercise delegated authority to take action and to appropriately seek assistance from others when limits of delegated authority have been reached.
- Excellent interpersonal skills both in-person and on the telephone to effectively interact with patients and other members of the public with patience, courtesy and professionalism. Ability to resource appropriate personnel/dept for customer inquiries or patiently address concerns.
- Must be proficient in the use of common computer applications and software including, but not limited to: Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint), Outlook, EMR, data entry, report compilation, and answering virtual correspondence and using different software applications.
- Writing skills, using proper English grammar, spelling and punctuation, sufficient to compose messages and/or routine correspondence, which is clear, concise and easy to understand.
- Knowledge of all pertinent laws, regulations, and guidelines governing medical records; confidentiality, privacy, and provision to others, including HIPAA.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, with demonstrated ability to self correct own work.
- Ability to understand and disseminate complex information.
- Demonstrated teamwork and interpersonal skills to build collaborative relationships with a large range of patients and employees across all levels of seniority and within many different departments.
- Demonstrated ability to ensure confidentiality and exercise discretion relating to the department and University regarding all patient information and sensitive personnel matters.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating within a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience, preferably in business or related field.
- Strongly prefer experience working in a clinical setting, with physicians.
- Experience with Aggie Enterprise to process contracts and order supplies.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Health System and UCD policies and procedures.

Department Overview The Departments of Radiation Oncology and Radiology serve over 70 clinical faculty, staff physicians and physicists. Each department is responsible for the administrative functions of both departments including School of Medicine finance, human resources, residency and fellow education, medical student and other observerships and faculty support. Work Environment
