What You'll Do in This Position

Assist Firefighters in performing routine fire fighting and rescue functions, fire equipment inspection, testing and maintenance, and facility inspections. Train for Firefighter position.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Work from standard and special procedures, NFPA Codes, OSHA and DOE orders, job plans, guidance from Firefighters and supervisory direction.

Perform administrative functions such as read and comply with NFPA Codes and standards, OSHA and DOE orders, building plans and job plans.

Maintain records of all inspections, maintenance, tests and fires.

Assist Firefighters in performing fire protection functions such as inspecting, testing and maintaining all fire equipment.

Inspect all buildings for fire hazards or hazardous conditions.

Work with pressurized cylinders and associated charging stations.

Identify conformance and non-conformance with NFPA codes and standards, OSHA and DOE orders.

Drive and operate heavy mobile fire equipment including trucks with associated pumps and specialized rescue and hazardous materials equipment. Must maintain a valid state driver's license in order to drive an Emergency Response Equipment Vehicle.

Respond to all site fires or fire alarms.

Respond to off-site emergencies, including hazardous material spills, when requested by appropriate authorities.

Check and re-fill fire extinguishers.

Routinely work in radiological controlled areas.

Operate motorized vehicles and associated equipment within licensing limits.

Use some hand tools and electronic test equipment.

Perform simple electrical/electronic repair and duties such as changing light bulbs.

Other duties as assigned by supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Identify all conformance and non-conformance with NFPA codes and standards, OSHA and DOE orders.

Drive and operate heavy mobile fire equipment, including trucks with associated pumps and specialized rescue and hazardous materials equipment. Must maintain a valid state driver's license and Q security clearance in order to drive an Emergency Response Equipment Vehicle.

Respond to all site fires or fire alarms.

Respond to off site fires and spill emergencies when requested by the proper authorities.

Check and refill fire extinguishers.

Routinely work in radiological controlled areas.

Perform administrative duties as required.

NOTE: May be required to wear hazardous material and radiological
protective clothing and respiratory equipment. May be required to climb and work from ladders.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance. This list of factors is not exhaustive; pre-employment information and security clearance requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Qualifications We Require

* High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)
* Training and IFSAC/NPQ certification in accordance with NFPA 1001: Standards for Fire Fighter Level II, or equivalent
* Training in accordance with NFPA 472: Standard for Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents Operations Level, or equivalent basic instruction on responding to and operating in a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) incident.
* Certification equivalent to NFPA 472: Standard for Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents Operations Level or Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 29 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 1910.120: Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response
* Certification as a South Carolina Emergency Medical Technician and/or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician
* Must maintain certification by training the minimum number of hours as prescribed by the SRS Fire Department Training Program.
* Must maintain EMT Certification prescribed by the SRS Fire Department Emergency Medical Service Continuing Education Program.
* Maintains AHJ-determined physical fitness standards suitable for the environment and typing; meets or exceeds the physical fitness standard in NFPA 1582 Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments and satisfy all essential firefighting functions as identified in Section 5.1.1
* Maintains immunizations in accordance with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's recommended adult immunization schedule.
* Able to work while wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
* Must pass a Job Performance Test which complies with NFPA 1582 Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Department
* IS-100: Introduction to the Incident Command System, ICS-100
* IS-200: Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response, ICS-200
* IS-700: National Incident Management System, An Introduction.
* IS-800: National Response Framework, An Introduction

Other Qualifications

* Certification equivalent to NFPA 472: Standard for Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents Technician Level or Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 29 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 1910.120: Hazardous Waste Technician and Emergency Response
* Previous experience as a professional firefighter.
* Previous experience as a practicing Emergency Medical Technician.

Candidate must provide copies of all applicable firefighting, EMS, HAZMAT, instructor, officer, and rescue certifications and/or cards. A copy of a transcript from educational institutions (such as a Fire Academy) is strongly recommended.

Candidate must provide proof of dates of service and/or relevant experience.
