PEMEX Deer Park is a highly complex refinery located 18 miles east of Houston in Deer Park, TX. It is part of the Pemex group, a fully integrated oil company in the Americas, working across the entire value chain: exploration, production, industrial processing/refining, logistics, and marketing. The refinery’s rated capacity is 340,000 barrels per day and has the feed flexibility to process multiple grades of crudes to produce the high-quality transportation fuels the world needs. The Pemex site is co-located with other 3rd party chemical facilities, allowing for further integration and optimization of the refinery and its products. We are hiring Mechanical Engineering Interns for Summer 2025 for individuals currently enrolled as full-time students in an accredited Mechanical Engineering program. The goal of the position is to provide an opportunity for an intern to obtain the skills and experience to help prepare for a successful career. It will allow interns to apply knowledge learned in school to a real-world manufacturing setting and gain insight into the operation of a large-scale refinery.

 

To succeed in the Mechanical Engineer Internship, you must have:

  • Be a full-time college student and have completed your Sophomore or Junior year by the end of Spring 2025.
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Mechanical Engineering Bachelor of Science program.
  • 3.0 or higher GPA.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build relationships across all organizational lines.
  • Exceptional computer skills; especially proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Relocation not available.  Local applicants only.

 

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will

  • Work with Mechanical Engineers to provide engineering support to the assigned production area and deliver improvements to asset integrity and reliability of equipment, ensuring safe operations and sound environmental performance. To accomplish this, the role is empowered to own static and rotating equipment performance within their operating units.
  • Work with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering counterparts to solve day-to-day problems, ensuring safe and reliable unit operation.
  • Assist with troubleshooting rotating equipment in the field and provide technical support as needed.
  • Perform investigations on failures related to mechanical equipment bad actors.
  • Provide regular updates on the project status to stakeholders.
  • Develop and deliver a presentation for the VP of Engineering and other management staff to communicate outcomes from the assigned project, in addition to learnings and accomplishments.  This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in presenting to senior management.
