The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations. |
Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Director, Budget & Finance for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). Reporting to the Director of Budget & Finance for Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) centralized support services unit, the Assistant Director oversees state-wide (New Brunswick, Newark, Camden, and
RBHS) centralized business accounting services. The Assistant Director provides financial oversight and supervises financial services activities, including planning, accounting, and financial systems. This position provides centralized services to the Division of IP&O. The Assistant Director supervises 6+ full-time staff (skilled/technical finance and accounting professionals), and 2+ student employees, and also serves as the accounting business point of contact for other University departments.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- The Assistant Director analyzes and reviews financial data, prepares monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements and reports for both internal and external purposes, and resolves a diverse range of problems consistent with the understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the financial services unit.
- This role is also aligned with a comprehensive understanding of accounting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), applicable regulations, and university policies and procedures.
- The Assistant Director interprets, communicates, and implements policies and practices to meet the needs of a diverse client population.
- The position works independently with broadly defined work objectives and limited review of overall results.
- This role requires professional work, requiring specialized to general knowledge in one or more fields of accounting/finance, with a solid understanding and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, regulations, and terminology, as well as applied bases in the area of specialization.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, along with a minimum of five (5) years of management experience with accounting and supervisory responsibilities.
