Job Summary

This position is within UC Davis Health's Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) office. EH&S provides UC Davis Health with accident prevention, industrial hygiene, environmental protection, occupational safety, business continuity, and exposure control expertise. Under general direction, work independently developing and implementing Health System occupational safety programs. This position may represent the Health and Safety Officer, as assigned. Serve as the Occupational Safety Program Administrator, providing direction, oversight and monitoring for injury prevention and safety programs. Maintain the UCDH Injury and Illness Prevention Program, including oversight of the Safety Coordinator Program. Consult on safety-related issues in construction, operations and maintenance, and healthcare safety.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health and Safety, Engineering, Public Health or similar relevant fields and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with injury prevention and high hazard safety programs (including lockout/tagout, confined space and fall protection).
  • Experience or knowledge of construction or operations and maintenance safety (including scaffolding, crane lifts, general construction safety).
  • Experience conducting accident investigations.
  • Experience working with Injury and Illness Prevention Programs (IIPP) including assessing job hazard analyses and proper personal protective equipment.
  • Experience with relevant regulations, e.g. Cal/OSHA, Cal/EPA and The Joint Commission.
  • Experience with conducting audits/inspections and/or undergoing and responding to audits/inspections.
  • Skills in use of but not limited to: Microsoft Office Suite including Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access (or similar technology); databases, e-mail systems, internet and etc.
  • Advanced level verbal, presentation, and written communication skills.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate in Risk Management (ARM) https://web.theinstitutes.org/designee-list, Certified Safety Professionals (CSP) https://directory.bcsp.org/ OR Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) https://gobgc.org/
  • Advanced degree in Health and Safety, and progressive health and safety responsibilities.
  • Safety-related experience working in an academic or healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of industrial hygiene, environmental health and/or infection control practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of how hospitals operate safely and in compliance with all laws, regulations, accreditation standards, hospital policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of safe practices related airborne and bloodborne pathogen, chemical and non-ionizing radiation exposures.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
