Provide basic fabrication or characterization process and/or equipment engineering services within an academic or research unit. This position will interact on a regular basis with: faculty, staff, students, researchers, vendors and contractors. Educational Requirements Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications: Candidate should have experience using CAD software to design parts and common machine shop tools. Candidate should have experience working with machinery; examples would include (but are not limited to) experience with combustion test rigs, assembling automotive engines, or maintaining hydraulic systems. Experience with data acquisition systems is desired. Candidate should be experienced with or willing to learn welding, plumbing, and electrical trades. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

The Process-Equipment Engineer I role will effectively serve as a combustion test technician in the Ben T. Zinn Combustion Lab. This position will work with teams of graduate students to deploy combustion test rigs and ensure their safe operation, help graduate students design and manufacture parts and assemble their experiments. This position will also be present during operation of the experiments and will provide troubleshooting as needed to help ensure the success of the experiments. Successful completion of these tasks will require working with machining tools and metalworking, including cutting and welding. It will also involve plumbing fuels, oxidizers and hot gases, instrumenting and wiring experiments. These skills will be learned and developed on the job. Details include: * Designing parts for combustion test rigs and overseeing their fabrication * Assisting with assembly, maintenance, and repair of combustion test experiments * Providing oversight and assistance with operation of combustion experiments * Assisting with instrumenting and wiring experiments, configuring flow control equipment, plumbing fuels, oxidizers, and hot gases |
