Position Overview
The University of Kansas Upward Bound programs are federally funded TRIO programs that work with first-generation and low-income college-bound students (rising 9th - rising 12th graders) in Shawnee, Douglas, Leavenworth and Wyandotte counties with the goal of increasing the rate at which students complete high school and graduate from college.
The Upward Bound Non-Bridge Summer Institute is an intensive six-week academic program that gives participants a chance to experience college life while preparing for their upcoming school year. Students share a room in a university residence hall with other participants and interact with instructors and residence hall advisors through taking five academic classes, have support finishing homework with the help of tutors. The Upward Bound Program Non-Bridge Summer Institute instructor will develop and implement content-area curriculum and serve as a role model for high school students who are participating in the Upward Bound Non-Bridge Summer Institute. Classes will be held Monday -Thursday, June 9 -July 3, 2025. Orientation for instructors is tentatively scheduled for May 15, 2025. The pay rate is $21-$23 per hour depending on qualifications. These positions are on-going temporary summer appointments. Primary Objective: Prepare students in subject areas they may expect to encounter during the upcoming academic year with a focus on learning study skills that will help students succeed in high school and college. Secondary Objective: Motivate students toward college and assist in building their self-esteem and sense of achievement. Position Requirements This position is on-site at the University of Kansas Lawrence campus.
Must be available to teach Monday-Thursday, June 9-July 3, 2025. Required Qualifications
