Overview
The Instructional Designer will be responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the Health Sciences to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Will work with stakeholders to apply instructional design principles and systematic processes in instructional course design and development while collaborating with a team of faculty, staff, and administrators to ensure excellence at the EVMS Health Sciences Academy (HSA). Will provide consultation and guidance adhering to best practices in the use of educational technology in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of instructional programs, methods, activities, materials, and assessment instruments to ensure quality standards are met consistently. Must be knowledgeable of learning theory and research processes, design and implement learning materials that produce optimal outcomes for students at HSA. Will assist with technology audits, implementation, daily project management, troubleshooting, and training for a range of instructional technology platforms.
Responsibilities
Instruction:
Deliver lectures, facilitate class discussions, and engage in various teaching activities during scheduled coursework.
- Respond to student inquiries and provide additional support as needed.
- Calculate and submit final grades for all students.
- Collaborate with Community College partners to facilitate coursework in Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and other dual-enrollment opportunities.
- Provide consultation, training workshops and other services related to online learning and education.
Curriculum review:
- Effectively apply instructional design principles, theories, and methodologies for use in traditional, individualized, multimedia, and distance environments.
- Evaluate existing courses against quality design standards and make suggestions for improvement and ensure that courses are in alignment with curriculum map and accreditation requirements.
Course design and development:
- Plan and manage course design and development projects adhering to quality design standards.
- Work with faculty to design accessible, student-friendly, balanced and well- sequenced courses to meet academic requirements.
- Work with faculty to design engaging instructional materials, learning activities and assignments that align with course student learning outcomes.
- Utilize learning management systems, eLearning development tools, and software as part of course development and integrates technology into the teaching/learning process to meet learning objectives
Learning Assessment:
- Work with stakeholders to plan and develop appropriate assessment strategies to evaluate student learning and to ensure assessments accurately reflect desired metrics.
- Develop, administer, and evaluate a range of assessment methods.
Project management:
- Work on multiple complex projects, demonstrating strong project management and organizational skills, including documenting project scope, course architecture, storyboards, and project plans
- Develop and manage a timeline for the review of course templates prior to template deployments through the AIS
Other:
- Exhibit excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including an ability to describe complicated technology in a nontechnical manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in education or related field with around 1 year experience in instructional design, preferably in an academic setting. Candidate must possess knoweldge of current instructional strategies appropriate for students for specified grade levels. Masters degree is preferred.
