INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

The San Luis & Delta-Mendota Water Authority ("Authority") is offering a legal/legislative policy clerkship. The Clerk will work out of Sacramento, CA on a broad range of issues, particularly in the areas of public agency law, water law, and related environmental laws. The Clerkship requires a 20-30-hour per week commitment for up to 12 weeks during the summer of 2025.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Clerk will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience by working alongside the Authority's General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, as well as other members of the Authority's management team. The Clerk will gain experience by: conducting research; drafting documents; tracking and analyzing state and federal legislation; assisting with administrative/court proceedings; attending meetings of the Authority.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
The opportunity is open to all law students who will have completed their first year of law school before the internship commences. Applicants should possess: strong interest and/or experience in the water-related issues; demonstrated aptitude and passion for learning new things; ability to organize, prioritize and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment; excellent oral and written communications and analytical skills; ability to collaborate effectively across diverse internal legal and business groups; a demonstrated ability to work efficiently, meet deadlines, and manage projects; ability to research legal and business issues and learn new concepts quickly; positive and professional attitude, including dependability and timeliness.

BENEFITS
Paid holidays are included for those that fall during the internship period. Sick leave accrues at the rate of 8 hours per month. Paid sick leave is available after 90 days of employment. No other health or retirement benefits are eligible for internship positions.
