Job Summary

The Electrophysiology Lab is a specialized invasive procedure suite where cardiac electrophysiology procedures are performed on patients from neonate through geriatrics. The Electrophysiology technician is an integral part the EP team and is responsible for operating the technical equipment used during complex EP procedures. A strong knowledge base that includes experience in a Cardiovascular Lab setting, operation of Mac Lab, endocardial mapping equipment including but not limited to Biosense Webster and Carto, as well as experience with assisting the physician in the scrub role for pacemaker and ICD implant procedures is required. Technical duties include pre/post procedure preparation, operation of EP monitors and computers, maintains inventory control, and assists in maintaining a safe work environment. #CA-SB#CA-SB

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
  • ACLS certification required.
  • 1 year experience as a CVT tech - will consider course work in lieu of work experience
  • Perform all roles of the EP Scrub Tech.
  • Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and electrophysiology.
  • Skill to work accurately and quickly under pressure.
  • Judgment skills to be able to make independent clinical decisions within scope of practice.
  • Set priorities, organize work independently for self and others.
  • Working knowledge of EP systems equipment.
  • Knowledge and recognition of pressure waveforms and ECG analysis.
  • Knowledge of laboratory supplies and their location.
  • Teach safety practices and equipment operational practices.
  • Provide pre- and post-EP teaching explanations of procedures and emotional support to patients and families.
  • Participate in implementing standards of patient care.
  • Participate in establishing policies and procedures; participate in on-going CQI program.
  • Provide orientation and instruction to new EP lab staff; provide teaching to cardiology fellows, nursing students and visitors.
  • Willing and able to work in a cooperative fashion with other staff members.
  • Understand and utilize the organization structure to benefit of the cath lab and the hospital.

Preferred Qualifications

  • RCES
  • PALS required within 3 months of hire
  • Graduate of an accredited Cardiovascular Program Graduate of an accredited Electrophysiology Program

Key Responsibilities

  • 40% - Assist with performance of all EP invasive and interventional procedures (EPS, ablation, PM, ICD, lead extraction, loop recorder etc.)
  • 40% - Knowledge of x-ray/digital equipment
  • 10% - Maintain the quality and safety of the work environment
  • 10% - Provide pre- and post-op care

The Electrophysiology Laboratory at UC Davis Hospital, consists of 2 procedure rooms treating a variety of patients of all ages for various heart rhythm disorders and implantable devices

Department Specific Job Scope

Attendance
Accepts overtime coverage as required for patient care
Materials management and inventory control
Monitors lab stock levels, recommends purchase of non-stock items to the supervisor to prevent depletion
Electrophysiology inventory is to be closely monitored with any deviations in acceptable levels reported immediately to the EP lab supervisor
Assist with restocking EP lab areas at the end of each day
