Research Assistant I BWH Rheumatology

Under close supervision, the clinical research assistant will work on a daily basis and report to a senior staff member and principal investigators. The clinical research assistant will assume the responsibility for the daily execution of assigned projects, computerized data management and will maintain data quality for multiple projects. Principal duties may vary over time-based on the project and grant demands.
Our current ongoing project is the Cohort of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis patients (COPPAR) for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis patients and Brigham and Women's Rheumatoid Arthritis Sequential Study (BRASS) for Rheumatoid Arthritis. Collected data from this clinical registry would focus on identifying biological, clinical, and environmental risk factors associated with the targeted diseases.

Principal Duties

  • Contacts and collects data on subjects. For most studies, this includes the administration of a study questionnaire either in person or on the phone.
  • Codes and enters data according to study protocols.
  • Identifies subjects for recruitment, following the study criteria. Performs medical record review to identify potential subjects based on study criteria. Keeps organized, accurate, and up to date databases and maintains up to date records on all research subjects.
  • Recruits study subjects from clinic, interacts with physicians, patients and other clinical staff.
  • Assists in drafting formats for questionnaires, surveys, interviews, and other instruments as needed for research projects, assuring the ease of administration and accuracy of data entry as well as assists with editing manuscripts, programs and scientific abstracts.
  • Contributes to writing progress reports, regulatory reports for institutional review board approval, human subjects' annual reviews, and development and revision of instruments, and preparation of graphics.
  • Communicates regularly with the PI(s) and research team about all aspects of the research trial(s).
  • Consolidation of biospecimens in freezers to optimize sample storage space. Update the freezerworks database at the sametime.Perform Quality Control (QC) monitoring by comparing lists from programmer about stored samples andconfirming subject ID numbers, aliquot ID numbers, volume, sample type, and location
  • Assists data manager with correcting data entry discrepancies and other aspects of the data cleaning process.
  • Assists with the production and mailing of newsletters to study participants.
  • Performs all other related duties and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree

* Excellent verbal and written communication

* Research experience working with data collected from questionnaires and patients preferred but not required

Skills, Abilities and Competencies Required

* Must have the interpersonal skills to interact effectively with persons with chronic disease who are participating in research projects.

* Must be able to prioritize and organize work responsibilities in order to meet deadlines so as not to hamper the progress of the studies.

* Keyboard/typing skills for data entry.

* Must possess integrity to maintain confidentiality.

* Must demonstrate accuracy in recording data.

* Must be able to make judgments under supervision for the above mentioned job duties.
