Group Therapy Coordinator - Full Time- 20 Bed Inpatient Unit

GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Provides leadership role on inpatient unit for the Group Program and oversees other group leaders involved in leading groups on the unit. Creates Group Schedule and monitors documentation of patients' group attendance and participation. Provides group training for those nursing staff that may need additional training in group leadership.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Group Coordinator is responsible for providing 3/4 groups daily that are structured appropriately to the specific patient population.
*Creates a group program schedule that utilizes the skills of all the disciplines to contribute to the group
program. Groups will run for approximately 45 to 50 minutes.
*Attends Clinical Team Meetings on a regular basis to inform Team members about patients' group participation.
*Attends and participates in staff meetings and other unit functions.
*Works with unit leadership to create group program that integrates 1. Psycho-education; 2. Social Interaction; 3. Activities; 4. Community-making groups.
*Recommends, in concert with the Nurse Director, individuals who can sign up for the Excellent Group Training Program to increase group skills and knowledge of group dynamics with particular clinical populations.
*Innovate group programs that are evidence-based and reflective of patients' needs on an inpatient unit.
*Monitors group attendance and group leadership assignments for all groups.
*Conducts periodic "focus groups" with patients to determine what goes well and what can be improved in terms of patient satisfaction.

Education:

  • Masters Degree from a recognized clinical training program (expressive therapy, counseling therapy, social work, clinical psychology, nursing, educational psychology)
  • Requires appropriate licensing to clinical discipline, i.e., LMHC, Social Work, Psychology, Nursing

Experience:

  • 3-4 years clinical experience with group psychotherapy and leadership responsibilities.
  • Active interest in clinical care issues related to inpatient psychiatric treatment.
