Job Summary

The Nurse Practice Manager assumes fiscal responsibility through preparation of unit budgets, supports research, participates in both long and short term strategic planning, and assures patient advocacy. The Nurse Practice Manager is accountable to the Executive Director, Ambulatory Operations and Director of Ambulatory Nursing Practice.

The Nurse Practice Manager is responsible for the daily hour planning, organizing, directing and controlling of the daily operations and clinical practice of assigned patient care areas, in order to provide quality, individualized patient care and support of Medical Center philosophies. The Nurse Practice Manager will lead staff to model a professional practice environment by: providing a clinically competent staff; encouraging strong interdisciplinary team collaboration and communication; supporting autonomy and accountability; providing staff opportunities for in-service and formal education; stressing the importance of continuous learning; and supporting a culture where concern for the patient is paramount. The Nurse Practice Manager assumes fiscal responsibility through preparation of unit budgets, supports research, participates in both long and short term strategic planning, and assures patient advocacy.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • A valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
  • Current ACLS or completed within 6 months of hire.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing.
  • Master's degree required in nursing or other related field. If currently in Master's degree program, must complete and graduate within three years.
  • Five (5) years of nursing experience.
  • Two (2) years of nursing management experience.
  • In depth clinic / center patient care management skills. Practice management knowledge in scheduling, customer-service methods, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, and / or information technology. Familiar with the policies, best practices, and standards involved with effective clinic / center administration. In-depth knowledge of patient population served and the requirements for the delivery of services.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to foster and promote an environment for effective communication and collaborative decision making across multiple units and disciplines.
  • Excellent leadership, fiscal, and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management and staff from all disciplines. Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration, and consistent achievement of objectives.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments.
  • Excellent skills in all aspects of successfully directing clinic / center patient care and / or clinic operations including developing strategic plans, creating benchmarks, integrating programs and functions, and fiscal management.
  • Strong knowledge of current and emerging best practices and technologies in the clinic / center healthcare industry.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Meets specialty specific clinical competencies for assigned area.
  • Working knowledge of applicable Standards of Practice.
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in the use of health care technology within specialty area.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to customer service and an ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues.
  • Full command (verbal and written) of the English language.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in field of practice: AMB-BC, CVRN-BC, RN-BC (Cardiac/Vascular), CCDS (cardiac device), CHFN, NE-BC, or NEA-BC certification
  • Ambulatory care experience.
  • Experience in Cardiology.
  • Experience in Telephonic Nurse Triage.
  • Experience developing reports, monitoring data, and implementing strategies to improve quality of services.
  • One (1) year of Magnet/shared governance experience preferred.
  • One (1) year of managing in a union environment preferred.
  • Epic EMR experience.

Department Overview

UC Davis Cardiology Outpatient Services provides comprehensive, innovative, and quality care for patients with heart conditions including coronary heart disease, heart valve disease (structural), heart failure (advanced cardiac therapies), heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias), and risk factor reduction. Together our team of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, device technicians, medical assistants, and clerical staff strive daily to exceed patient expectations for exceptional care. The program is nationally recognized for our excellence by U.S. News and World Report, and the clinic hosts 20, 000 patient visits per year.

The Cardiac Rehabilitation program is nationally certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). We have approximately 7,000 patient visits per year. It is a multi-disciplinary program with physicians, nurses, exercise physiologists, dieticians, and psychologist that collaborate to establish the best plan of care for the patient. Patient teaching is integrated into the exercise sessions to ensure all patients are getting the education components necessary for their success.
