Job Description
The Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the laboratory functions for the department in accordance with the established hospital and department policies and standards. This position manages and coordinates activities of workers engaged in performing tests to obtain data which plays a pivotal role in providing the information physicians require for making sound patient treatment decisions. This position plays a lead role in the strategic planning process and the implementation of initiatives focused on enhanced performance, workflow redesign, and developing a culture that emphasizes excellence in the quality and delivery of laboratory services. This position maintains quality control and instrument standardization at satisfactory levels as requested by regulatory agencies. This position establishes and reviews the quality assurance program. This position is responsible for hiring new staff, evaluating job performance, tracking the financial budget, medical equipment acquisition, ordering supplies, laboratory safety and maintaining records. This position will function as a clinical laboratory medical technologist in all areas of the laboratory services
Responsibilities
- Assumes responsibility for the daily operational needs of the department and provides ongoing support to the supervisory staff activities to ensure that effective, efficient, and quality services are consistently provided.
- Readily and accurately identifies opportunities for improvement relating to the delivery of laboratory services, quality-of-work life, and patient care issues. Works collaboratively with the supervisors and managers across departmental lines, to implement solutions and take steps to improve departmental performance.
- With guidance from the laboratory director and the director of revenue services, coordinates the activities of the laboratory Medicare compliance program. Along with the supervisory staff of the department, responsible for updating and revising, as needed, the compliance plan and maintaining accurate and current coding of the laboratory procedures on the departmental charge master.
- Maintains compliance with regulatory, accrediting, and hospital policy for patient services, personnel management, and environmental safety. Responsible for consistent compliance with all laboratory safety-related guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Ensures timely, thorough investigation and follow-up of incidents relating to laboratory performance and implementing appropriate corrective actions to prevent or minimize recurrence. Will keep the director informed as to significant issues relating to service, quality, and patient care.
- Assists the director in managing an effective, comprehensive performance improvement process, that is outcome driven and establishes a culture of excellence in quality and service. Provides ongoing support in collecting and analyzing data and preparing reports.
- Manages the education and training in the department, including orientation, competency assessment, re-education and In-service education.
- Is responsible for department's operational excellence; ensures department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards.
- Manage team members which include orientation, development and evaluation of personnel, and monitoring the provision of delivering quality services. Participates in the recruiting, interviewing and selecting of team members following policies, guidelines and applicable laws. Evaluates their performance relative to job goals and requirements. Provides coaching to staff, recommends in-service education programs, and ensures adherence to internal policies and standards.
- Is responsible for the fiscal management of department; assures proper utilization of organization's financial resources.
- Effectively communicates departmental, organization, and industry information to staff.

Qualifications
Minimum Education
- Bachelor's Degree Medical Technology Required
Minimum Work Experience
- 4-6 years Experience in laboratory services as a medical technologist Required
Licenses and Certifications
- Clinical Laboratory Supervisor Licensed State of Florida Upon Hire Required
