Overview
The Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies (formerly Rutgers Center for Tobacco Studies) is undergoing dynamic and transformative growth. The Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies is one of the nation's leading tobacco focused research centers and its faculty have received over $50 million in extramural funding over the past two decades. The Institute's efforts are focused on their mission of reducing and ultimately eliminating, tobacco-related morbidity and mortality.

Five Centers or Programs currently operate at the Institute including a Tobacco Center for Regulatory Science, the Center of Excellence for Rapid Surveillance of Tobacco, the Tobacco Dependence Program, a Tobacco Industry Marketing Program, and a Tobacco Control Law & Policy Resource Center.
Posting Summary
Rutgers is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist V for the Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies ( INTS), located in New Brunswick, NJ. Under the direction of the Associate Professor/Chief of Survey Methods and Data Analysis, performs research activities. Performs work requiring application of standard techniques and procedures

Duties include:

  • Conduct statistical analyses to identify trends and patterns of tobacco use and related behaviors.
  • As directed by Associate Professor/Chief of SMDA, analyze and interpret complex survey data from national health
  • surveys.
  • Create data visualizations to present findings in conference presentation, journal articles, and to other stakeholders
  • Ensure data quality and integrity through rigorous data management practices.
  • Develop codebooks based on INTS data in accordance with established practices at INTS.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant science required.
  • Must have computer literacy including Microsoft Office Suite and data querying tools. Intermediate or greater proficiency with at least one statistical package, preferably R (R, SAS, STATA, etc.).
  • Familiarity with tobacco use epidemiology and related public health topics.
  • Ability to learn and integrate other related computer applications into existing operations.
  • Must have good time management, communication, interpersonal, decision making, analytic, and reporting skills.
  • Must be able to work with a wide range of individuals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives on data usage including faculty, staff, and senior administrators, as well as individuals at other institutions and government offices.
