Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Lead a team of planning engineers to deliver network enablement plans, optimal network customer experience, and network cost efficiency
- Network Equipment includes Access (PON and Active Ethernet), service routers, core routers, transport, telemetry, service provider servers, caching, peering, and voice network components
- Plans include budget codes, high level plan including order of operations, bill of material estimate, and network drawings from applications like Visio to convey the intent of the network augment
- Develop ongoing traffic flow studies of the network
- Proactive port and bandwidth capacity management of the network equipment
- Integrate new markets into the network - this includes initial modeling and detailed project creation if the new market is moving forward. This effort requires coordination with business development, Outside Plant, and Engineering/Implementation teams to ensure alignment of build area and meet points for transport.
- Lead peering and caching efforts with external providers and initiate projects to implement
- Update and utilize customer experience metrics to trigger solutions that improve customer experience (example - latency and jitter optimization)
- Plan infrastructure solutions for carrier and commercial orders when required
- Lead integration plans for acquisition companies/networks
- Lead Data Center selection and growth planning for transport and IP peering
- Proactive life cycle management of production equipment
- Develop and evolve published network planning guidelines and processes and publish in systems like Confluence
- Collaborate with Product Development to ensure the network can provide services offered across all customer segments
- Update monthly KPI Operations report for Network Efficiency and Capacity
- Track projects and status with clear and concise updates
- Create tasks and track to completion using project management tools such as Jira
- Communicate with and effectively triage equipment vendor and services when relevant
- Travel to Evansville a minimum of twice a year if remote
- All other duties as assigned
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications/networking
- Previous leadership experience
- Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills
- Proficiency with MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
- Ability to create executive level Power Point presentations
- Ability to create and analyze financial total cost of ownership
- Physical network topology design experience spanning multiple geographic areas
- L2 switching/L3 routing knowledge and experience
- Strong understanding of GPON and XGS PON preferred with experience designing these networks
- Experience with Nokia, Calix, and Adtran fiber based access networks
- Experience with DWDM/ROADM and other optical transport systems
- Experience with network monitoring software such as Unified Assurance, Solarwinds, Kentik
- Familiarity with Nokia SAM / NMS / AMS /Altiplano, Adtran AOE, Calix CMS, and MetaSolv preferred
