Job Description

Johnson County Developmental Supports (JCDS) is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Assistive Technology Specialist. JCDS serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We focus on individuals' abilities, provide choice driven supports, and advocate alongside people to live and work in our community. We aspire to build a community that promotes, supports, and embraces people of all abilities. Direct Support Professionals are responsible for the delivery of services with JCDS. Initial review of candidates will begin Tuesday, February 25, 2025.

    Develops assessment measures to identify the AT needs of individuals with developmental disabilities; interviews individuals, staff, families or other supports to understand needs; researches and recommends appropriate assistive technology; develops and acquires adaptive equipment and environmental modifications based on assessment of needs; and customizes new and existing vocational skills, skills of daily living assessments and motivation and reinforcement assessments for use in evaluating individual's needs.
  • Implements and trains the individual, family and staff on the AT intervention/plan of action, proper use and care for adaptive, assistive devices or environmental modifications; creates written documentation on proper use and care of equipment and ensures completed assessments are in action plans; evaluates the fidelity of AT interventions through observation and feedback of individuals, family members and support staff; and provides ongoing support, adjustment and maintenance of devices and inventory.
  • Leads advocacy and education efforts for effective technology solutions such as iPad and mobile device applications and smart home technology; shares production and assistive technology strategies among service teams; attends outside training and reviews literature to stay current on best practices and trends on the assessment and application of Assistive Technology.


Job Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements:

High School diploma or equivalent is required and two (2) years of experince in assistive technology, adaptive equipment, environmental modifications or related experience are required.

Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.

Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions:

Lifting: 50lbs.

Exposure to hazardous materials (bodily fluids).

All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.
