Denison University: Sustainability and Environmental Studies Location Granville, Ohio Open Date Feb 03, 2025 Deadline Mar 01, 2025 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time Description Basic Function The Denison Sustainability & Environmental Studies Program (SES) invites applications for a two-year, Visiting Assistant Professor position, beginning August 2025. We seek a colleague with a strong interdisciplinary academic background in the social science aspects of sustainability and environmental studies, with a capacity for working across disciplinary boundaries. In particular, we seek a new colleague with teaching experience and research interests in environmental planning (urban and/or regional scale), environmental conflict resolution, environmental design, and/or environmental policy processes. Our Program prioritizes hands-on, experiential modes of teaching and learning, with strong community engagement and it is important for the successful candidate to prioritize these pedagogical approaches. Renewal beyond this two-year appointment is within Denison's discretion, contingent upon institutional needs and satisfactory performance. Essential Job Functions The successful candidate will be capable of teaching all courses in the core of our curriculum: SES 100 Introduction to Sustainability and Environmental Studies; SES 200 Environmental Analysis; ENVS 301 Sustainability Practicum; and SES 401 Environmental Senior Project (see course descriptions at http://denison.edu/academics/environmental-studies) and advanced courses in the candidate's area of expertise. The teaching load (6 courses per year) will include sections of core courses and advanced courses to meet the needs of the Program. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. in appropriate discipline by August 2025 is required. The successful candidate will: be an outstanding teacher/scholar who can teach effectively at all levels of our curriculum; demonstrate a strong commitment to liberal arts education; and demonstrate the capacity to participate in a community-based interdisciplinary program. Preferred Qualifications Previous college-level teaching experience in one or more of the following areas: environmental planning, environmental conflict resolution, environmental design, and environmental policy processes.
