Job Description - Senior Director, Transmission & Distribution Field Operations

Position Description
Leads teams of Supervisors, Superintendents, Managers and/or Directors in the strategic planning, operational performance, safety performance, workforce development, resource and work planning across the company. Ensures compliance with financial, operational, safety and regulatory requirements. Provides professional leadership development, workforce planning and coaching to ensure long-term success of the team and company. Responsible for the T&D Field Operations departments.

Position-Related Responsibilities

  • Identifies, plans and implements long and short-term strategic plans and changes with a focus on continuous improvement, innovation and organizational effectiveness. Plays a critical role in informing enterprise strategy.
  • Evaluates and recommends the selection, development, assignment, performance and compensation of team members.
  • Assures adequate training for leaders in terms of technical capability, supervisory skills, and leadership capabilities, including cross-training to ensure supervisory rotational capability.
  • Responsible for the safety of assigned personnel. Assures adherence to safe work practices, TEP Standards and operating procedures OSHA, NESC, NEC, Federal Motor Carrier Reg, and other fed, state and local codes and regulations.
  • Responsible for the business oversight, management and guidance of team budgets which support the cost-effective implementation of departmental and T&D strategies, tactics and operating plans.
  • Responsible for longer range financials plans including large financial or external risks.
  • Facilitates project prioritization and resource allocation. Provides and oversees project management ensuring timeliness, financial responsibility and required functionality.
  • Evaluates and leads the organizational structure, processes, policies, and team strategies across the organization and/or externally with key customers, partners, and regulatory bodies for continuous improvement, efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Partners with other Business Units and third parties, representing T&D interests in alignment with the T&D Energy Delivery Vice President, to provide maximum efficiency of operations.
  • Demonstrates behaviors that support leadership commitment. Leads by example in the use of new technology, communicates strategies and plans, stays attuned to the morale and wellbeing of the team.
  • Provides information to senior leadership that will help develop and implement effective and successful Business and Operating Plans, utilizing technology and creativity to meet goals and objectives.
  • This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.
  • Regularly interacts with senior management or executive leadership.

Performance Measures

  • Ensures that the Company's management principles, policies and programs are consistently practiced and continually support the Affirmative Action Plan.
  • Assumes fiduciary responsibility for operating the business and provide recommendations on cost improvement measures.
  • Ensures that the Performance Management program is administered uniformly and effectively.
  • Complies with and administer the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement when applicable.
  • Administers personnel functions, including recruiting, review and approval of job descriptions and salary classifications, and selection and placement of personnel. Participates in hiring, termination, promoting, assignment and direction of staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state and federal laws, regulations and standards, company policies, practices and ethical obligations to investigate, evaluate and recommend appropriate resolution to employee complaints.
  • Promotes and participates in the professional development, personal growth and career planning of staff. Motivate, recognize and reward, coach, counsel, train; provide feedback to employees during performance reviews. Participates in Leadership Development programs.
  • Addresses disciplinary and/or performance issues, according to company policy, and communicates effectively with employees regarding corrective action. Has input into the adjustment of grievances and administration of discipline.
  • Oversees the planning and scheduling of day-to-day and emergency operations, workflow and internal and external personnel needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Twelve years relevant experience in T&D operations.
  • Ten years leadership experience of progressively responsible leadership positions.
  • Experience must include oversight of programs, supervision of staff, fiscal management, project development, budgeting, and direct work with executive leadership.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced degree or certification preferred.
  • Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment within general policy guidelines.
  • Strong problem-solving and people skills

Pay Rate: Salary determined based on candidate's experience and qualifications
