Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Program Director for the Guardian Scholars Program, the Program Advisor will provide counseling and advising services to graduating students and serve as a case manager, providing wrap-around support for all program participants. Services, programming, and counseling efforts will focus on exploring and creating post-graduation plans to address housing, career, and financial insecurities for outgoing students. This position will also address ongoing basic needs for all continuing program participants such as housing, food insecurity and mental health, build external partnerships, and act as a liaison between students and campus/external resources.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

* Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or equivalent experience/training
* Experiencing developing, organizing, and implementing educational programs.
* Experience in providing general advising or counseling.
* Experience making referrals and tracking progress.
* Knowledge and experience in analyzing problems and identifying solutions for problem-solving; skills and experience in developing and administering programs.
* Knowledge of personal growth and development areas, including critical thinking, effective communication, self-appraisal, self-esteem, clarification of values, appropriate career choices, and leadership.
* Knowledge of trends and issues facing students with lived foster care experience, low-income and first-generation college, underrepresented, disadvantaged, physically challenged, and under prepared students in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications

* Master's degree in Counselor Education, Social Work, Higher Education or Student Affairs Leadership experience
* Educational background in Counselor Education, Social Work, Higher Education or Student Affairs Leadership experience working with students with lived experiences in foster care, low-income, first-generation.
* Excellent writing skills.
* Experience with confidential student records.
* Experience working with students with lived experiences in foster care, low-income, first-generation.
* Knowledge of the theories and practice of counseling, learning, human and career development.
* Knowledge of University, college, and major requirements, policies, and procedures, including policies
* on handling student records and confidential documents.

Department Overview

The Office of Educational Opportunity and Enrichment Services (OEOES) houses a family of programs, services and centers designed to support student learning, enhance the student experience, and foster strong communities where students feel empowered to achieve their goals. Transition assistance, support services and co-curricular opportunities are offered to all students along with specialized support geared toward various diverse student communities. Programs and centers include the Special Transitional Enrichment Program (STEP), First-year Aggie Connections (FYAC), Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), Guardian Scholars Program (GSP), Underground Scholars Program (USP), Success Coaching and Learning Strategies, Reentry Center (TRC), TRiO Scholars Program, Veterans Success Center (VSC), and Pre-Graduate/Law Advising. The department employs over 125 students as peer advisors and mentors, coaches, and program assistants.
