Job Description

The Clinical Manager has 24-hour responsibility for the effective implementation of the philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures of the hospital and the nursing department and their effect on patient care in a designated unit. This position has authority to make decisions on that unit in the areas of patient care, human resource, and financial management. The clinical manager is responsible for unit's operations. This position demonstrates superior communication skills with all internal and external customers and exhibits a high degree of integrity, a solid character, and sound judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the divisional director in development, implementation and evaluation of on going service programs that assure quality nursing and patient care programs consistent with hospital mission.
  • Monitors and maintains unit compliance with regulatory, accrediting and hospital policy for patient services, and environmental and personnel safety. Oversees quality improvement program which monitors and evaluates critical aspects of care.
  • Maintains current license and knowledge of nursing care requirements for all patients on the unit.
  • Assesses need for personal growth and development and takes the initiative in seeking opportunities to meet this need. Works collaboratively with the educator(s) to ensure all clinical competencies are met.
  • Accurately identifies potential problems affecting the service and implements solutions with follow through and communication. Responsible for on going development of staff and unit specific patient care programs.
  • Consults with patients and families through primary nurse request, direct family request, and/or direct assessment of patient and family response to hospitalization. Assesses patient and significant other survey responses regarding nursing care and services.
  • Responsible for effective and efficient fiscal management of department operations to ensure proper utilization of organizational and financial resources.
  • Responsible for department's operational excellence; assures department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and professional standards.
  • Manage team members which include orientation, development and evaluation of personnel, and monitoring the provision of delivering quality services.
  • Participates in the recruiting, interviewing and selecting of team members following policies, guidelines and applicable laws.
  • Evaluates their performance relative to job goals and requirements.
  • Provides coaching to staff, recommends in-service education programs, and ensures adherence to internal policies and standards.
  • Effectively communicates departmental, organization, and industry information to staff.
  • Initiates and coordinates special projects pertaining to case management.
  • Membership in appropriate Hospital committees, both medical staff and operational.
  • Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization.
  • May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.


Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing Required

Minimum Work Experience

  • 3 years clinical nursing experience Preferred and
  • 1-3 years management experience (will consider charge nurse experience) Required

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse Licensed State of Florida or eligible compact state Upon Hire Required
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required
  • Professional Nursing Certification Required Preferred
  • ACLS Provider (ACLS) American Heart Association within 1 Year Required
