Position Overview

Essential Job Duties
A postdoctoral researcher is needed to conduct independent research on the development of anatomical left-right asymmetry. Specifically, the postdoc will use advanced gene misexpression strategies ( CRISPR/morpholino oligonucleotides), transcriptomics (bulk and/or spatial), 3D imaging modalities (nano-CT), and/or computational modeling (CompuCell3D) to address the cellular and molecular mechanisms of left-right asymmetric organ morphogenesis in the developing digestive tract.

The successful applicant will have a demonstrated ability to lead and manage research projects independently as well as the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team. Excellent written and oral communication and collaboration skills are essential. The applicant should also have demonstrated expertise in microscopy, image processing/analysis, gene editing, immunostaining, and/or molecular biology, as indicated by a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Research Design and Execution:
Independently design and conduct research experiments to investigate developmental processes, including gene expression analysis, cell lineage tracing, and manipulation of genetic pathways.
Data Analysis and Interpretation:
Analyze experimental data using advanced techniques like microscopy imaging and bioinformatics, generate figures, and interpret results to draw meaningful conclusions about mechanisms of development.
Publication and Dissemination:
Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals, including data presentation, discussion, and revisions. Present research findings at national/ international conferences, and within collaborative networks.
Collaboration:
Collaborate with other researchers within the lab (contribute to projects involving other organs) and across disciplines to exchange knowledge and expertise and advance research aims.
Other Work/Responsibilities
Grant Writing Support:
Contribute to the development of grant proposals, including literature reviews and experimental design sections.
Professional Development:
Attend scientific conferences and/or courses, present research findings, and actively seek opportunities to expand research skills.
Mentorship and Lab Management:
Maintain accurate laboratory records, manage research supplies, and mentor junior researchers or undergraduate students as needed. Work with (and care for) living model organisms (e.g., mouse, Xenopus) as needed.
