We're seeking a skilled Data Analyst to join our FMR Data & Analytics team. As a data expert, you'll play a critical role in analyzing and interpreting financial data to inform strategic decision-making, and designing and implementing data solutions that drive efficiency, data integrity, and informed decision-making. The majority of your work will be focused on supporting the accounting teams, with a strong emphasis on financial data analysis, reporting, and planning.

The Data Analyst will also play a significant role in supporting finance power BI dashboards which are essential for understanding key financial metrics and form the foundation for management data and decision making.

The Opportunity

The Financial Data Analyst supports Munich Re's US Property and Casualty (P&C) Finance operations by developing and maintaining financial data models, reports, and dashboards in Power BI. Additionally, the successful candidate will contribute to various projects across Financial Management and Reporting (FMR), with a focus on accounting topics, and work on automation initiatives and other data analytics projects to drive process efficiency and business insights.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver project-based work with accounting teams, such as developing Power BI dashboards, automating accounting workflows, or implementing data analytics solutions to drive business insights and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and deliver data-driven solutions that meet their needs.
  • Design and implement data analytics solutions to support business process improvements, including financial reporting, forecasting, and budgeting.
  • Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and architectures using Databricks, Azure Data Factory, and other relevant technologies to support data ingestion, processing, and storage, including the implementation of ETL processes.
  • Develop and maintain data models to support business requirements, ensuring data structures are optimized for performance and scalability.
  • Implement data quality checks and validation processes to ensure accurate and reliable data, maintaining high data integrity by detecting and resolving data anomalies and inconsistencies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance specialists, actuaries, and accountants, to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that meet business needs.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of data engineering processes, data models, and infrastructure configurations.
  • Ensure data security and compliance with relevant data protection regulations.

Qualifications:
Successful candidates will possess the following experience, skills, and capabilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Science, Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
  • Experience in the P&C insurance industry and/or finance experience is a plus
  • Accounting knowledge (e.g. STAT, IFRS17, Solvency II) is a plus
  • 5+ years of proven experience in data engineering, data modeling, and data visualization.
  • Strong experience with Power BI, including data modeling, report development, and dashboard creation.
  • Experience with database technologies like Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, or similar.
  • Experience with data pipeline development using Azure Data Factory, T-SQL, and other tools.
  • Expert SQL skills, including T-SQL, Spark SQL, etc.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and best practices.
  • Strong coding skills in Python
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The Company is open to considering candidates in New Jersey and in New York, NY. The salary range posted below applies to the Company's NYC location only.

The base salary range anticipated for this position is $113,000 - $160,000 plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).

The salary estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for candidates hired in this position in NYC only. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
