Postdoctoral Associate - Stanley Center

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY

The long-term research goal of the Pan lab is to understand the molecular, cellular and circuit mechanisms underlying psychiatric disorders and develop novel therapeutics to treat these disorders.

The lab uses a broad spectrum of techniques such as in vitro electrophysiology, ex vivo and in vivo neurophysiology, genetic and molecular manipulation, biochemistry, cell biology, as well as behavioral testing.

The Broad Institute is a leading biomedical research institute, known for its cutting-edge technology/research and highly collaborative research environment.

The mission of the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research at the Broad Institute is to discover novel therapeutics to ameliorate the burden of major psychiatric and neurological illnesses.

• Successful candidate will investigate novel mechanisms underlying behavioral and neurophysiological deficits in rodent models of diseases.

• The candidate will utilize an array of techniques including in vivo recordings, pharmacology, chemo- and optogenetic manipulations to analyze the role of genetic and environmental perturbation (such as sleep deprivation and stress) on the disease etiology and pathogenesis.

• The researcher will be responsible for communicating results to the scientific community through conference presentations and publications, and within Broad Institute internal communications.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Ph.D. in Neuroscience, pharmacology or related field with proven record of first author publications (or in press) in peer-reviewed journals.

• Solid training in stereotaxic surgical procedures and (including local injections or implantations) optogenetics/chemogenetics manipulations is required. Demonstrated technical proficiency in LFP and/or single unit in vivo recordings of live animals is highly desired.

• Candidate with experience in sleep research are highly encouraged to apply.

• Outstanding personal initiative and communication skills, to work in a collaborative environment.
