Position description

The Rube Lab at University of California, Merced is looking for an ambitious Postdoctoral Scholar to carry out cutting-edge projects at the interface of computational and molecular biology. This research opportunity will be focused primarily on developing tightly integrated sequencing experiments and computational algorithms to characterize biomolecular interactions with high throughput. This contributes to a broader project that aims to gain a detailed biophysical understanding of how regulatory proteins recognize their genomic binding sites. The ideal candidate would have both extensive experience developing high-throughput experiments and possess strong computational skills, but candidates with a variety of backgrounds are encouraged to apply. This position will offer a unique opportunity to work in interdisciplinary team at the interface of experiment, big data, and statistical learning.

Responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Develop high-throughput assays and validate the results.
  • Work with data scientists to iteratively improve the assay and the algorithms.
  • Disseminate results through high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in the lab.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Ensure best practices in data and project management.
  • Stay current with technological advancements and apply this knowledge to enhancing ongoing research initiatives.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications

A PhD in a relevant field, such as molecular or cell biology, biophysics, biochemistry, genetics, or bioengineering.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with expression and purification of proteins, protein-DNA binding assays, and preparation of high-throughput sequencing libraries.
  • Proficiency in Python or another general-purpose programming language and applications to statistical and computational modeling.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
