About the Gursoy Lab The Gursoy Lab is interested in human health and well-being, not only from a biological perspective but also from a human dignity perspective. The team works at the intersection of genomics and privacy/security. They develop tools (both in wet lab and computationally) that infer important biology while enabling broad data sharing among researchers and preserving individual patient and study participant privacy. They are also interested in using the power of technology and computational biology to understand the role of nuclear organization in gene regulation and cellular processes. The lab is also affiliated with the Department of Biomedical Informatics, the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the Department of Systems Biology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and the Department of Computer Science and Data Science Institute at Columbia University. https://g2lab.org/research/ About the Lappalainen Lab The Lappalainen Lab studies functional genetic variation in human populations. It is particularly interested in regulatory variation affecting the transcriptome, as well as cellular mechanisms underlying genetic associations to disease. The lab integrates computational analysis of genomic and transcriptomic data with population genetic and experimental analysis. The lab consists of a team at NYGC and of a team at SciLifeLab and KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. Dr Lappalainen spends 20% of her effort at NYGC and the responsibilities described above only apply to her activities based at NYGC. https://tllab.org/ About the Sanjana Lab The Sanjana Lab develops technologies to understand how human genetic variants cause diseases. The lab employs a multi-disciplinary approach, combining genome engineering, pooled genetic screens, molecular genomics, synthetic biology, and imaging, to dissect the inner workings of the human genome and to develop next-generation therapies for diverse diseases, including cancer, rare inherited disorders, brain disorders, autoimmunity and others. The Sanjana lab is comprised of molecular engineers, biologists, neuroscientists, computer scientists and bioscience entrepreneurs who are passionate about creating new technologies for genomics and advancing human health. The lab is also affiliated with the Department of Biology at New York University. http://sanjanalab.org/ Competencies
