Description

Job Summary:

As a Supervisor, Estimating, you will be responsible for supervising the Commercial Estimating function to assure that Commercial customers receive accurate price quotations in a timely manner, while maximizing company profits.

Essential Functions:



  • Research and create pricing for high-profile, large-potential customers.
  • Help with the creation of Publication agreements for review and management sign-off.
  • Supervise Estimating staff to ensure that the department is completing accurate quotes in the acceptable timeframe.
  • Oversee estimating processes and systems and plan work of the department.
  • Review and pre-qualify all bids before assignment to Estimator.
  • Checks finished quotes based on the Approval Guidelines before giving to leadership for final approval.
  • Provide effective backlog management, which includes assigning, prioritizing and monitoring bid backlog, and reporting of open backlog and completed bids.
  • Supervise and monitor the training of new estimators.
  • Provide research and guidance for new customers and products.
  • Guide and support Sales Reps to achieve quote requests that are the most cost effective for the customer.
  • Guide and support Purchasing Buyers to achieve the best possible vendor pricing.
  • Provide continuous improvement of departmental processes and procedures to improve workflow and increase productivity.
  • Analyze manufacturing costs, competitive data, and variances to determine methods of improving pricing accuracy and bid to sales ratio.
  • Work with CSRs on pricing issues, manufacturing procedures, production variances, or problems.
  • Identify cost saving opportunities, as well as opportunities to raise prices to maximize company profits.
  • Participate in the implementation of new or updated processes and other systems related to estimating.
  • Communicates management policies to employees and employee's needs and desires to management.
  • Communicates continually with managers, production supervisors, CSR's, and sales representatives.


  • Earn the respect of the Sales Team such that you become the transparent/trusted source of information.
  • Earn confidence and respect of Ownership and Executive Management via presentation and discussion of large quotes/opportunities.
  • Serve as the backup for the Estimating Manager
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

  • Must successfully complete any training or certification courses required to support or strengthen position.
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow verbal and written instructions, work procedures and other related materials.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including strong customer service skills.
  • Must communicate appropriate information accurately and clearly as needed.
  • Demonstrated advanced proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Windows based databases.



Minimum Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Arts, Accounting, Finance, or Business related field and six years' experience in Estimating or related field OR
  • Associate degree in Graphic Arts, Accounting, Finance, or Business related field and eight years' experience in Estimating or related field.
