Research Scientist

The Schweizer Research Group seeks a Scientist II with expertise in antimicrobial resistance, healthcare-associated infections, antimicrobial stewardship, and implementation science. This role will be to use implementation science, human factors engineering, and qualitative methods to design clinical interventions to prevent healthcare-associated infections and enhance antimicrobial stewardship and diagnostic stewardship, then to actively implement those interventions in a clinical setting.

This Scientist will pursue Grant Proposals as a co-investigator and/or PI in collaboration with other researchers at UW-Madison and develop a scholarly publication record based on the research activities in this position. The Scientist will also support the professional growth of other members of the Schweizer research team, including research specialists, graduate students, fellows and post-doctoral researchers and junior faculty members. • 20% Identifies research problems and develops complex research methodologies and procedures
• 25% Collects and analyzes complex research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures under general supervision
• 10% Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities
• 20% Writes or assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
• 10% May supervise the day-to-day activities of a research unit as needed
• 15% Serves as a unit subject matter expert and liaison to internal and external stakeholders providing advanced level information and representing the interests of a specialized research area

Required
Terminal Degree
PhD in Anthropology, or other closely related field is required by the start date. Medical degree (MD/MBBS) also accepted.

Required:
* Scientific research experience focused on research in the areas of antimicrobial resistance, healthcare associated infections, and/or antimicrobial stewardship interventions in health systems and behavioral intervention research.
* A minimum of 5 years of experience in an academic research setting.
* Experience with qualitative methods, implementation science research, human factors engineering, health services research, and clinical and translational research.
* A record of peer-reviewed publications that are focused in the areas of healthcare-associated infections, antimicrobial resistance, and antimicrobial stewardship.
* Experience writing national (VA, NIH, AHRQ, PCORI) grants.
* Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), REDCap, Qualtrics, or comparable data capture tools.
* Experience with qualitative analysis software (NVivo, MAXQDa, and Dedoose).
* Experience with clinical medical practice and clear understanding of clinical workflows.
* Experience in patient-centered, partner engaged research including the use of participatory research methods.
* Experience with integrating best practice recommendations into electronic health records (EHR) using human factors principles and EHR data extraction and analysis.

Preferred:
* Experience collaborating with academic and non-academic hospitals and health systems nationally.
* Experience with low resourced health systems such as in rural areas or developing countries.
* Ability to meet deadlines and initiate tasks without close supervision.
* Experience coordinating the work of teams, including developing timelines, managing team communications, and delegating tasks.
* Prior experience with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) application process.
* Experience writing scientific manuscripts for publication.
* Superb written and oral communication skills.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Minimum $65,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

The starting salary for the position is $65,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. University sponsorship is not available for this position, including transfers of sponsorship.
