THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services is looking for a Vocational Adjustment Services Worker to join our dynamic activities team at Torrance State Hospital. In this role, you will design, implement, and evaluate vocational adjustment components of individualized program plans to support the comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation of sex offender residents. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will collaborate closely with the activities director and supervisor to ensure seamless continuity of care and supervision. As part of a small, professional team, you will provide innovative therapeutic work opportunities for patients in need. You will engage with patients daily, offering essential, treatment-focused work opportunities tailored to their therapeutic needs. Additionally, you will conduct assessments to evaluate whether job readiness skills would support a patient's progress during their civil commitment at the hospital. You will design and implement personalized care plans to address each patient's unique treatment goals, complete patient employment packets, and provide on-the-job therapeutic interventions. You will also demonstrate proficiency in applying therapeutic techniques and maintain certification in advanced Mandt training.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Your work schedule is 7 days on, followed by 2 days off, then 3 days on, and another 2 days off.
  • May change based on operational needs.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in the field of Vocational Adjustment Services for those with mental or physical illness or handicaps: or
  • Graduation from a four year college or university with major course work in Vocational Rehabilitation, Vocational Education or Counseling, or a related Human Services field; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
