The W.A. Franke Honors College is seeking candidates for a Career-Track Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice (one position) to support the instruction and development of the Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation (BCII) degree. The BCII is an international award-winning and unique transdisciplinary dual-degree program new to the W.A. Franke Honors College that provides students with a range of skills and knowledge to tackle complex challenges in today's rapidly changing world. Transdisciplinary thinking builds bridges between fields of study and expertise - it integrates different perspectives, data, information, concepts, techniques and theories from multiple disciplines.
For this position, we seek a candidate to engage in teaching and curriculum development, scholarship and research, and service within the W.A. Franke Honors College. The desired candidate demonstrates experience with diverse perspectives and knowledge, reflecting the global context in which innovation occurs. This is particularly critical as the desired candidate has established networks and communities in relevant industries or academic fields that could enrich the program and provide opportunities for partnerships or work-integrated learning for BCII students. The candidate will report to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and work closely with the Compton Chair of Creative Intelligence and Innovation and the Associate Director of Strategic Partnerships.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Curriculum Development- 60%
    • Teach four 3-unit HNRS Courses for the academic calendar year.
    • Teach either:
      • Two 1-unit HNRS Courses for the academic calendar year, or
      • One 1-unit UNIV 101 Honors section and one 1-unit HNRS course, or
      • Any of the above including co-teaching additional HNRS-BCII courses, or equivalent as approved by supervisor.
    • Facilitating student engagement in internships with BCII innovation partners, enhancing real-world learning experiences and facilitating student application of BCII learning outcomes.
    • Designing
      and implementing additional BCII courses to cultivate advanced
      forward-thinking and cross-disciplinary skills.
    • Create
      inter- and trans-disciplinary curricula and supporting program
      development that incorporates experiential learning, embodied learning,
      critical thinking, and transdisciplinary approaches.
  • Service - 20%
    • Serve on internal Honors committees such as scholarships, curriculum, awards, and/or a project of special interest.
    • Hold appropriate office hours each week (typically 1.5 hours per week per 3-unit class taught).
    • Actively participate in service to the college and university.
    • Participate in the admission and advising of students in the BCII major and minor, in collaboration with other faculty.
    • Collaborating in the organization of BCII-related meetings, committees, and events.
  • Research/Scholarship/Creative Inquiry - 20%
    • Engage in and disseminate scholarship related to areas of teaching/learning, curriculum/pedagogy development or interdisciplinary research.
    • Contribute to educational research projects related to the BCII curriculum.
    • Scholarly activity includes all phases of the research and creative productive process, from background investigations through publication and dissemination.
  • All additional teaching, service, and scholarship must follow the internal Honors Faculty Annual Performance Review and Policy Guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrate commitment to preparing students for a diverse, multicultural, and interconnected society.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, faculty, and external partners (including industry, government and community partners).
  • Ability to lead collaborative projects between students and external partners would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Knowledge in creating inter- and trans-disciplinary curricula and supporting program development.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree.
  • A minimum of three years of college or university teaching, research, and service experience.
Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or other terminal degree in a related field.
  • Experience with student-centered teaching with an emphasis on active learning and creating a dynamic and supportive environment that prioritizes student engagement and empowerment.
  • Experience in higher education teaching and course development that incorporates experiential learning, embodied learning, critical thinking, and transdisciplinary approaches.
