The Program
Mallinckrodt is offering an 11-week internship program, which provides an immersive experience in the world of pharmaceuticals. As an MNK Intern, you will have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful and impactful work that compliments the degree you are pursuing. Here, you will be able to apply what you've learned in the classroom to a corporate environment. In addition, our internship program is designed to include networking opportunities across the company, professional development workshops, and community service.

Job Description

The Analytical Chemist Intern will contribute to experimental sample analysis supporting R&D peptide projects. This role involves utilizing at least two chromatography techniques, with mass spectrometry serving as the endpoint through extracted ion chromatography. Additionally, the intern will have the opportunity to learn and apply western blotting methods on the same samples. Collaboration with synthetic chemists and biologists working towards a shared mission is a key aspect of this position. This internship offers a chance to work alongside a small, focused, and interdisciplinary team.

Essential Functions

  • Provide analytical support for a development project

  • Compliance with company, site and safety policies and procedures.

  • Critical feedback welcomed and encouraged.

Minimum Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Master's degree program in Chemistry (organic chemistry, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, etc)

  • Analytical chemistry coursework strongly preferred.

  • Laboratory experience including NMR spectroscopy preferred but not required.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft office applications

Organizational Relationship/Scope:

  • Position directly reports to the Sr. Manager, Analytical Chemistry.

  • Intern will be mentored by a Senior Analytical Chemist who will supervise an R&D peptide project.

Working Conditions:

  • The role will involve typical laboratory conditions where chemists are required to wear eye protection and lab coats; might potentially handle hazardous chemicals requiring the use of additional PPE; and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.

  • This position requires full-time work in a research laboratory, both standing while working at a bench and seated.

  • This position involves using a computer to analyze data, write reports, and document experiments in notebooks.
