Brown and Caldwell has an opportunity for an Engineering Intern - Summer 2025 - Atlanta, GA to spend a summer working with our team to support our Atlanta, Georgia office. We are seeking a motivated, achievement-oriented individual who wants to spend their summer gaining practical, hands-on experience outside of the classroom. Detailed Description:

How Will You Make an Impact?

Interns at Brown and Caldwell make a daily, material impact by completing support duties to advance their team's projects and objectives. They receive professional training and the support of their team. Interns can expect to be onboarded, mentored, and developed by industry leaders to develop real-life skills and make an impact on their assigned projects. Projects this role may work on include:

As a student intern, you will perform duties that require professional training but little or no experience. You may be assigned, under close supervision, to do simple engineering design work, such as preparing plans, cost estimates, and specifications. You may also perform routine field inspection and testing to check performance or conformity with plans and specifications. You will gain exposure to engineering work in various engineering fields (wastewater, water, construction management).

As an Engineering Intern, you can expect your experience to include the following:



  • Work closely with project manager and other team members to execute work involving conventional types of civil, environmental, and/or mechanical engineering principles and other related activities for water and wastewater treatment conveyance projects.
  • Assist with the preparation of calculations, technical memoranda, reports, presentations, drawings, specifications, and miscellaneous contract documents.
  • Perform data entry, analysis, and visualization.
  • Provide engineering services during construction.
  • Participate in field work, as needed for projects. Successfully manage and deliver
  • Assisting with environmental studies, permitting, and compliance reviews.
  • Conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments and report writing. Conducting regulatory research.
  • Technical writing of permitting documents and project delivery.
  • Collecting field data, auditing and documenting field activities.
  • Communicating environmental requirements directly to the project team and/or client.
  • Working independently and with teams to complete assignments with other team members in a virtual platform.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to support regional and national client teams.
  • Interacting and communicating directly with clients on behalf of Brown and Caldwell.
  • Adhere to Brown and Caldwell's QA/QC process.
  • Hybrid work schedule: 2 days in office at Atlanta, GA Office, 3 days remote, occasional fieldwork


    Desired Skills and Experience:

    To qualify for an internship, you must be enrolled in a full-time program (minimum nine credit hours per semester) seeking a degree in engineering, science, geology, or a related field. You also must be in good standing and carry an overall GPA of at least 3.0 in your core curriculum, as well as a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.

    What Must Our Candidate Have? (Required)



    • To qualify for an internship, you must be enrolled in a full-time program (minimum nine credit hours per semester) seeking a degree in engineering, science, geology, or a related field. You also must be in good standing and carry an overall GPA of at least 3.0 in your core curriculum, as well as a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills


    What Will Our Ideal Candidate Look Like? (Preferred):



    • Preferred coursework - Water/Wastewater Treatment, hydraulics/fluid dynamics, water resources engineering, environmental engineering, surveying.
    • GIS
    • CAD


    Salary Range: The hourly pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

    Location A:
    Hourly $18.40 - $25.20

    Location B:
    Hourly $20.20 - $27.70

    Location C:
    Hourly $22.00 - $30.20
